All of the starting flights for Day 1 of the PokerStars Festival Uruguay Main Event are now complete and the overall chip leader after the two flights is still Halysson Sala. Sala played on Day 1a and was able to bag up 240,000 chips. The chip leader at the end of Day 1b though was Julio Arocena. The Uruguayan player was able to bag up 223,000 chips, but that was only enough for the second biggest stack in the tournament. Arocena has several live recorded cashes under his belt, all of which are from Uruguay.

Day 1b’s flight drew in 156 entries, which brought the total number of entrants to 261 players. With the 33 players who bagged up last night, and the 53 players who bagged up for Day 1b, there are a total of 86 players remaining. A total prizepool has not been posted yet, but when it becomes available it will be updated in the payouts section.

Tuesday saw many familiar faces re-enter the tournament, such as Andres Korn, Jose Ili, Mark Scacewater, Matias Gabrenja, Ezequiel Ferretty, and Juan Marquine. Of that list, several didn’t make it through the day. Notably, Andres Korn fell after losing a coinflip with ace-king against an opponent’s pocket tens. Others to fall include Gabrenja, Marquine, Ferretty, and Ili. Some of those making it through to Day 2 from Day 1b include Julio Belluscio, Fabio Colonese, Leo Fernandez, and Brett Trevillian.

Two popular sports stars also joined the field today. One was Argentinian rugby player Lucas Gonzalez. Gonzalez entered the tournament twice but was unable to find any traction and was eliminated twice. He chose not to enter a third time. Diego Veronelli who was a former Argentinian tennis pro also entered, but he also didn’t make it through the day despite winning a couple pots early in the day.

There were, however, some notable success stories for Day 1b. One that comes to mind is that of PokerStars Team Pro Leo Fernandez. Fernandez got out of a hot start in the tournament, employing a strategy of limping into many early pots. He was able to grow his stack significantly throughout the day. In one hand in particular, Fernandez flopped a straight and got his opponent all in only drawing to a chop. By the end of the day Fernandez had amassed 131,900 chips and was one of the largest stacks in the room.

The remaining 83 players will return tomorrow at 12 p.m. local time where they will play ten more 60-minute levels. PokerNews will be back with them and we’ll be covering all the action so make sure to stay tuned.

Colonese Climbing

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Fabio Colonese has been toying around the 100,000-chip mark for about the last hour, but he's finally passed that mark in a big way by taking down a recent pot.

We caught the action on the flop with the board showing {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades} and 10,000 chips already in the middle. Action checked to Colonese on the button who bet 3,300. Georges Hajjar folded while the player in the cutoff called.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} prompting checks from both players. On the {10-Spades} river, the player in the cutoff put out a bet of 10,000 which Colonese thought about for a bit before calling. The cutoff showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for just king high, but Colonese turned up {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a pair of sixes with the pair of eights on the board and that was good to take down the pot.

Korn Left With Crumbs

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Andres Korn
Andres Korn

We didn't catch the preflop action but Andres Korn had one opponent all in and he was holding {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} while his opponent help {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}.

The {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} put Korn in the lead with a pair and a flush draw. The {8-Spades} on the turn kept him in the lead, but the {10-Diamonds} on the river was one of the two outs his opponent was looking for and with that Andres Korn was left with just 9,000 in chips.

Aceiton Flushed by Scacewater

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Christian Aceiton
Christian Aceiton

Catching the action on a board of {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} action was on Mark Scacewater and he had a bet of 16,000 out in front of him. That put Christian Aceiton in the tank and the bet was big enough to put him all in for his tournament life. He thought about it for a long while before finally pushing forward his stack to call.

"Flush?" Aceiton asked.

Scacewater showed him {5-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the made flush. Aceiton tried to muck his cards without showing but he was forced to turn up his {A-Spades}{K-Spades} which was drawing dead.

The river bricked out with the {9-Diamonds} and that would do it, eliminating Aceiton from the tournament as Scacewater was able to chip up early here on Day 1b, already doubling his stack.

Veronelli Straightens Out an Opponent

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Diego Veronelli
Diego Veronelli

Diego Veronelli limped into the pot from the button before the player in the small blind raised, making it 550 to play. Veronelli called so the two headed to the flop.

The dealer rolled out the {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Spades} and the small blind continued with a bet of 700. Veronelli called.

On the {10-Hearts} turn, the small blind continued a second time, making it 1,000 to go. Veronelli decided to raise, making it 2,200, and his opponent called.

On the {Q-Clubs} river, the small blind slowed down and checked. Veronelli put out a bet of 4,000 and after some thought his opponent called. Veronelli showed {J-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for a turned straight and that was good to earn him the pot.

Colonese Doubles Up

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Fabio Colonese
Fabio Colonese

With a substantial pot of about 8,000 already brewing and the board reading {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, Fabio Colonese was in the hijack and heads-up against the player to his immediate right, who checked. Colonese bet 5,000 and his opponent called.

The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Colonese's opponent shoved, putting Colonese to a decision for his stack. He quickly called and tabled {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flush which was good enough to win the pot against his opponent, who held {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} for Broadway.
