All of the starting flights for Day 1 of the PokerStars Festival Uruguay Main Event are now complete and the overall chip leader after the two flights is still Halysson Sala. Sala played on Day 1a and was able to bag up 240,000 chips. The chip leader at the end of Day 1b though was Julio Arocena. The Uruguayan player was able to bag up 223,000 chips, but that was only enough for the second biggest stack in the tournament. Arocena has several live recorded cashes under his belt, all of which are from Uruguay.

Day 1b’s flight drew in 156 entries, which brought the total number of entrants to 261 players. With the 33 players who bagged up last night, and the 53 players who bagged up for Day 1b, there are a total of 86 players remaining. A total prizepool has not been posted yet, but when it becomes available it will be updated in the payouts section.

Tuesday saw many familiar faces re-enter the tournament, such as Andres Korn, Jose Ili, Mark Scacewater, Matias Gabrenja, Ezequiel Ferretty, and Juan Marquine. Of that list, several didn’t make it through the day. Notably, Andres Korn fell after losing a coinflip with ace-king against an opponent’s pocket tens. Others to fall include Gabrenja, Marquine, Ferretty, and Ili. Some of those making it through to Day 2 from Day 1b include Julio Belluscio, Fabio Colonese, Leo Fernandez, and Brett Trevillian.

Two popular sports stars also joined the field today. One was Argentinian rugby player Lucas Gonzalez. Gonzalez entered the tournament twice but was unable to find any traction and was eliminated twice. He chose not to enter a third time. Diego Veronelli who was a former Argentinian tennis pro also entered, but he also didn’t make it through the day despite winning a couple pots early in the day.

There were, however, some notable success stories for Day 1b. One that comes to mind is that of PokerStars Team Pro Leo Fernandez. Fernandez got out of a hot start in the tournament, employing a strategy of limping into many early pots. He was able to grow his stack significantly throughout the day. In one hand in particular, Fernandez flopped a straight and got his opponent all in only drawing to a chop. By the end of the day Fernandez had amassed 131,900 chips and was one of the largest stacks in the room.

The remaining 83 players will return tomorrow at 12 p.m. local time where they will play ten more 60-minute levels. PokerNews will be back with them and we’ll be covering all the action so make sure to stay tuned.

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

With about 5,000 chips already in the pot on a flop of {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}, the player in the big blind checked and Ramiro Petrone bet 3,000 from middle position. The big blind called.

The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The {J-Hearts} fell on the river and the big blind checked. Petrone bet 7,000, the big blind folded, and Petrone took the pot.

Four More Hands

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The clock has been stopped and each table will play four more hands before the remaining players bag chips for the evening.

Julio "Maquina" Arocena Felts a Foe

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The player under the gun opened to 3,600, the next player to act called, and Julio "Maquina" Arocena three-bet to 9,600 from the hijack. The player in the big blind four-bet jammed, the original raiser folded, as did the other early-position player, and Arocena quickly called to put the big blind at risk.

Arocena: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Big blind: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Arocena found himself on the favorable side of the ultimate preflop cooler and the big blind needed help from the deck in order to preserve his tournament life. The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and Arocena took the pot to eliminate his opponent.

Fernandez Can't Pull The Trigger

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We caught up to the action on the turn with a pot brewing between Leo Fernandez and one opponent. The board was {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and action checked over to Fernandez. Fernandez fired off a bet of 7,300 which his opponent called and the two went to the river.

On the {10-Hearts} river, Fernandez's opponent checked. Fernandez thought about it for a bit before he finally checked behind. The player showed {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and that sent Fernandez's cards into the muck and allowed his opponent to take down the pot as Fernandez dropped to under 150,000 in chips.

Juan Parra Building a Big Stack

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

With a substantial pot of about 55,000 already brewing and the board reading {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}, Juan Parra was under the gun and heads-up against Ramiro Petrone, who was in the hijack. Parra checked and Petrone bet 27,000. Parra counted out calling chips but then check-raised all-in, putting Petrone to a decision for the remainder of his stack. Petrone folded and Parra took the pot to put his chip count over 200,000.

Scacewater Sends One Home

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Mark Scacewater raised to 2,700 from middle position, the hijack called, and the big blind moved all-in for what looked like about 20,000. Scacewater called to put the big blind at risk, and after a bit of thought, the hijack folded {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} face up.

Scacewater: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Big blind: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

Scacewater had the preflop advantage with the better ace and the big blind needed help from the deck in order to double up. The board ran out {J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and Scacewater took the pot with top pair, top kicker to send his opponent to the rail.

Colonese Climbing

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Fabio Colonese has been toying around the 100,000-chip mark for about the last hour, but he's finally passed that mark in a big way by taking down a recent pot.

We caught the action on the flop with the board showing {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades} and 10,000 chips already in the middle. Action checked to Colonese on the button who bet 3,300. Georges Hajjar folded while the player in the cutoff called.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} prompting checks from both players. On the {10-Spades} river, the player in the cutoff put out a bet of 10,000 which Colonese thought about for a bit before calling. The cutoff showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for just king high, but Colonese turned up {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a pair of sixes with the pair of eights on the board and that was good to take down the pot.
