From March 21 through April 7, PokerStars PA hosted the Pennsylvania Spring Championship of Online Poker (PA SCOOP). The entire series – of which there were 43 numbered events, each with low, medium, and high buy-ins – catered to a combined 39,695 entrants and awarded $2,436,277.40 in prize money.
One of the big storylines of the online festival was the sheer number of repeat winners, many of whom are well-known grinders in the segregated market. A quartet of players tied for most titles with four apiece in “NutFlopper412”, “Dionysus1888”, “dabigquk1”, and “OMC Escher”.
Meanwhile, nine players notched three titles each, while another eight were on the board with a pair of titles. That included established Pennsylvania poker pro Zach ”KennyTheRipper” Gruneberg, a two-time WSOP PA Online bracelet winner and 10-time gold ring winner.
Dan McGinnis opened to 40,000 in middle position and Michael Bohmerwald made the call in the small blind.
Bohmerwald checked the A♥4♣8♦ flop and called when McGinnis fired a continuation bet of 33,000. Another check from Bohmerwald followed the 6♣ turn and McGinnis counted out a bet of 145,000.
The call was made and the 3♦ river completed the board. Bohmerwald checked one last time, with McGinnis checking behind.
Bohmerwald tabled A♠10♣ for a pair of aces, good enough to claim a sizeable pot as McGinnis mucked.
Dan McGinnis raised to 32,000 from under the gun and made the call after Andrew Chu three-bet to 98,000 in the small blind.
Chu checked the 6♠6♦J♠ flop, with McGinnis taking some time before betting 58,000. Chu did not take long to let his hand go, as McGinnis raked in the pot.
Guan Huang limped on the button before Fadi Sader raised to 63,000 in the small blind. Huang took some time before sliding in the call and the 6♥3♥2♠ flop hit the felt.
Sader led out for 85,000 and the call was made to see the 4♣ turn. Sader stacked his chips and moved all in, with Huang quickly calling.
Fadi Sader: 10♣10♥
Guan Huang: 8♠5♠
"You have a five?" asked Sader as he turned over his pocket pair. Huang hit a straight on the turn, improving to a better straight on the 7♠ river to send Sader out.
Action was three-way to the 6♣5♣J♣ flop, where Angel Modica checked in the big blind.
Soheb Porbandarwala fired a bet of 42,000 in early position and Roger Lussier called on the button. Modica took some time before check-raising all in for 302,000.
Porbandarwala stuck in the call and Lussier got out of the way.
Angel Modica: 5♥5♦
Soheb Porbandarwala: A♣2♣
Porbandarwala flopped a flush, but Modica spiked the J♦ turn to make a full house. The 2♠ river completed the board, as Modica doubled up through Porbandarwala.
Daniel Restrepo had his stack in the middle, all in and at risk against Philip Saracino on his immediate left.
Daniel Restrepo: K♣10♠
Philip Saracino: A♣9♥
Restrepo was already standing before the Q♥6♥2♥ flop hit the table. Saracino's ace-high held through the K♦ turn and 4♥ river to send Restrepo to the payout desk.
