Elton John once sang "Saturday night's alright for fighting", and there was certainly plenty of battles going on at the PokerStars 2025 World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) tables on September 13. A total of 20 events crowned their worthy champions on the first day of the weekend, including a few high-profile first-time winners, and one player capturing their sixth title.
Jonathan "Proudflop" Proudfoot was the biggest single winner on Saturday, courtesy of coming out on top in the $5,200 buy-in edition of the Thursday Thrill. With progressive bounties included, Proudfoot scooped an impressive $120,603 to go with his second WCOOP gong.
In the $1,050 buy-in edition of the Thursday Thrill, Frenchman Benjamin "BC1989RF" Chalot came out on top and netted $76,535. Chalot denied Blaz "Scarmak3r" Zerjav heads-up, but Zerjav made amends later in the evening, becoming a six-time WCOOP champion after triumphing in the $1,050 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo.
Several other events were paused after their respective Day 1 conclusions. They included the $2,100 No-limit Hold'em where Patrick "pads1161" Leonard leads the final nine as he aims to get his hands on a 12th WCOOP title and a $42,645 top prize.
