King Trying to Take Second RIU Title

Level 6 : 200/400, 75 ante
Brandon King, pictured here last year.
Brandon King, pictured here last year.

On a flop of {4-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}, Brent Harrington bet 2,000 from the cutoff and got action from the player on the button. Brandon King was in the small blind and shoved all in for 9,250. A fourth player tanked awhile and mucked, and Harrington followed suit. The player on the button called, however.

King: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Button: {10-Spades}{7-Spades}

King was fading just the {5-Spades} that would give his opponent a straight flush, but the turn and river were clean for him.

Last year at Run It Up Reno, King took down the $85 All In Or Fold tournament, topping 112 players for a $4,748 first-place prize. He's looking to add to his RIU hardware here in 2016.

Piles for Nevius

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 200 ante
Steve Nevius
Steve Nevius

We found Steve Nevius in the small blind, putting an opponent at risk for around 10,000 on a board of {4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{q-Hearts}. Nevius held {q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for queens up, and his opponent had {q-}{10-} and was in need of help in the form of an eight or a ten. The {j-Diamonds} river missed him, and Nevius appears to be the chip leader at this early juncture.

Gomez Eliminates Magnus with Royal Flush

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Nadya Magnus
Nadya Magnus

Derek Gomez moved all in preflop and Nadya Magnus called all in for her last 24,000.

Gomez: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Magnus: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

With Magnus in the lead, the {J-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{K-Hearts} flop would see her rendered to a big underdog as Gomez flops Broadway.

Unfortunately for Magnus, the turn would be the {J-Hearts} to see Gomez improve to a royal flush as the {9-Hearts} on the river completed the board.

"A Double Up or a Turkey Burger"

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Somerville
Jason Somerville

Brandon King moved all in from middle position, and Jason Somerville peeked at his cards and called off right away for 55,000 in the small blind.

"A double-up or a turkey burger," he declared of his near-future.

Somerville: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
King: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

It looked like a double after the {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades} flopped missed King, but a turkey burger looked imminent after the {6-Diamonds} turn. Somerville still had outs to nines and eights, and the river was a {9-Spades}.

Somerville Falls in 15th

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Jason Somerville - 15th Place
Jason Somerville - 15th Place

Phillip Stumbo opened to 30,000 from the hijack only to have Jason Somerville three-bet all in for his last 107,000 from the big blind. Stumbo called having Somerville covered by just 4,000.

Somerville: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Stumbo: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

With Stumbo holding the heavy advantage, the {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} furthered his lead before the {9-Spades} and {10-Hearts} completed the board and ensured Somerville's elimination in 15th place for a $365 payday.

Stumbo Strikes on First Hand

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Phillip Stumbo
Phillip Stumbo

On the first hand of the unofficial final table, Phillip Stumbo open shoved his last 128,000 from under the gun and Andy Camou moved all in for roughly 235,000 next to speak.

Stumbo: {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Camou: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The flop of {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} thrust Stumbo squarely in the lead, but when the {9-Hearts} landed on the turn it opened the door for Camou.

The river fell the {4-Diamonds} and Stumbo doubled to 300,000 as Camou slipped to 105,000 in chips.

Newman: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Andy Peplinski Eliminated in 7th Place ($832)

Level 19 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Andy Peplinski
Andy Peplinski

Phillip Stumbo opened to 60,000 early, and Lindsey Fross called in the cutoff. Small blind Andy Peplinski jammed for 250,000 or so, and Stumbo and Fross followed him into the pot.

Stumbo: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Fross: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Peplinski: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Every had paint but it was Stumbo in front. The {5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts} board kept him there, and Fross was left with just 32,000 after sending 302,000 to Stumbo.
