Day 2 is Here; Paul Sampson Leading Final 136 Players

Chip Leader Paul Sampson
Chip Leader Paul Sampson

Welcome back to the Peppermill Resort Hotel and the 2016 Run It Up Reno festival hosted by Jason Somerville for Day 2 of the $565 Main Event!

Across three day one flights - one of which was a super turbo - a field of 391 players took to the felt to create a prizepool of $195,500. Although many people expected the guarantee to be met, no one expected that it would be crushed by 30%!

Leading the final 136 players into Day 2 is Paul Sampson who finished 4th in the Thursday Thrilla earlier this week. Sampson would absolutely steamroll his Day 1b flight picking off bluffs and making hands as he finished as the overwhelming chip leader with 456,400 in chips; more than 200,000 then second placed Brandon Boatman who bagged 256,500.

Gary Kochalka (246,100), Robert Paul (242,000) and Reuben Moss (210,900) are the only other players who bagged over 200,000 while the likes of defending champion Nick Aguilera, WSOP bracelet winners Jason Somerville, Leo Wolpert and Chad Holloway as well as last year final tablists Jesse Capps and Kristin Kane are all making an appearance here on Day 2.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on the floor providing continuos live updates from 12:00 p.m. PDT of all the Day 2 Main Event action.

Dowhower Dusted by Aguilera's Kings

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Nick Aguilera opened to 4,500 under the gun, and he was called by a player in the cutoff, Zhihao Zhang in the small blind, and Zac Dowhower in the big blind.

The flop fell {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and Aguilera continued for 11,000 with Dowhower the only caller as the {5-Spades} landed on the turn.

Dowhower checked and Aguilera bet 20,000 which Dowhower called after roughly two minutes in the tank.

The river landed the {J-Diamonds} and Dowhower moved all in for roughly 31,800 and Aguilera called.

Dowhower tabled his {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for top pair, but it would be Aguilera's {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} that would see him pushed the pot.
