John Lewis is the Bomb

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
John Lewis
John Lewis

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is focused on five events at the RIU Reno VIII, but there are plenty of side events throughout including Monday’s $125 NL Bomb Pot, a tournament played like traditional no-limit hold’em but requires players to each put up an ante and action starts on the flop.

The tournament attracted 124 runners which surpassed the guarantee by creating a $12,028 prize pool. The top 20 players got a piece of it including Michael Holmes (20th - $200), Kyle Anderson (15th - $250), Carlos Pal (9th - $390), Twitch streamer Arlie Shaban (7th - $570), Adam Owen (4th - $970), and former RIU Reno Main Event champ DJ Fenton (3rd - $1,228).

In the end, John Lewis of Portland, Oregon defeated Michael Wood in heads-up play to win the title and a $2,440 first-place prize.

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
John Koo
John Koo

John Koo got his stack of 34,000 all in preflop and he was at risk against Ron Shephard, who had him covered by just a single T500 chip.

Koo: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Shephard: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Koo was looking for a high five but he was left hanging as the board ran out {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. Ship the $100 bounty to Shephard.

Madan Sets Up Opponent for $100 Bounty

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Jon Cockey opened for 8,000 from early position and Michael Madan called from the hijack. The player in the cutoff flatted, the big blind came along, and it was four-way action to the {9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop.

Two checks saw Madan bet 20,000, the cutoff folded, and the player in the big blind check-raised all in for roughly 30,000. Cockey got out of the way and Madan made a quick call.

Madan: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Big Blind: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}

It was a brutal set-over-set flop and Madan had the best of it. All he had to do was dodge the case three, which he did when the {7-Hearts} appeared on the turn followed by the {5-Diamonds} on the river.

Acosta Stays Alive

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

The under-the-gun player opened with a raise and then called when Julian Acosta three-bet all in for 28,000 from the small blind.

Acosta: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}
UTG: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Acosta was out in front and held the better kicker when the {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds} flop paired both players. The {j-Hearts} turn gave the UTG player a straight draw, but the {3-Spades} river was safe for Acosta.
