The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be focused on five events here at the RIU Reno VIII, but there are plenty of side events throughout including last night's Event #3: $125 Short Deck Hold’em. That tournament attracted 113 entries and created a $10,961 prize pool.

Among those to get a piece of it by finishing in the top 18 but fall short of the final table were Andy Camou (12th - $220), Eric Goldstein (15th - $180), Patrick Tardif (16th - $180), and Jon Wallace (18th - $180).

At the final table were some familiar faces such as 2012 World Series of Poker runner-up Jesse Sylvia, RIU Reno stalwart Vincent Newland, and poker pro Adam Owen. However, it was Sherman Mah of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania who emerged victorious to win the trophy and $3,153 first-place prize.

Welcome to Day 2 of the 11-day long Run It Up Reno VIII at the Peppermill Resort Hotel. With $700,000 in guarantees spread over a wide variety of games and buy-ins, it's shaping up to be Jason Somerville's biggest series yet.

Among those slated to attend the festival are Somerville, Fintan Hand, Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg, Kevin Martin, Arlie Shaban, Ricky Guan, Andrew Neeme, Brad Owen, Joe “Stapes” Stapleton, 2003 World Series of Poker champ Chris Moneymaker, LFG Podcast co-host Jamie Kerstetter, Marle Cordeiro, Johnnie Vibes, David Tuchman, and Survivor legend Tyson Apostol.

Today is the second of two starting flights in the $440 Mini Main Event will get underway at Noon local time. The tournament features a big blind ante (it becomes the size of the small blind when four-handed or less) and starts players with 20,000 in tournament chips. Registration and re-entries are available until the start of Level 12, at which point the length of each level will increase from 30 to 40 minutes.

There will be 15-minute breaks every two hours with a one-hour dinner break at the end of Level 11. The plan for each starting flight is to end when the first flight did, which was with 4:42 left on the clock in Level 12.

Speaking of Day 1a, that flight attracted 127 runners and played down to 20 percent of the field. Leading the surviving 26 players was Alan Mastic, who bagged up 310,000. Others to bag big stacks were Andy Pokrivnak (242,000), Jesse Capps (194,000), Glenn Uchibori (155,500), and Jason Pease (144,000), who round out the top five.

Among those to fire and fall on 1a, who will have another chance to fire today if they so choose, are Jason Somerville, Michael Trivett, Jimmy Cappucci, Ashley Sleeth, LFG co-host Jamie Kerstetter, and Joe Brindle.
