History will be made the Horseshoe Casino Tunica as the inaugural Mississippi State Poker Championship $400 Main Event will crown the first-ever champion this weekend at the shores of the Mississippi River. The new championship will feature a $50,000 guarantee as players chase the largest share of the prize pool and the honor of becoming the first champion in the tournament’s history.

The tournament will feature four starting flights. Friday, Sept. 18 will host two starting flights. Day 1a is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with Day 1b to follow at. 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 will follow the same format with Day 1c beginning at 11 a.m. and the final flight slotted for a 7 p.m. start. Players that qualify from the first four opening flights will reconvene on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 12 p.m. All times are local.

Players will begin the tournament with 30,000 in chips. Blind levels are set for 30 minutes on Day 1. The blind levels will increase to 35 minutes at the start of Day 2 before they bump up to 40 minutes at the final table. A 15-minute break is scheduleed after every four levels of play during Day 1 starting flights. 10 minute breaks are slotted after every three levels on Day 2. Play on Day 2 will continue until a winner is crowned.

Competitors are allowed unlimited re-entries and participants are allowed to play all Day 1 flights. Registration for each flight closes at the beginning of Level 9. Players may forfeit their start at the end of Level 8 and re-enter for $400.

The top 12.5%, rounded down, of each starting flight will qualify for Day 2. Should a player qualify more than once, they will advance to Day 2 with the largest stack and forfeit the lower stack(s) and receive the lowest Day 2 payout.
