Will Berry Wins RunGood Poker Series Downstream Casino Resort ($25,522)

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Will Berry - 1st Place
Will Berry - 1st Place

At the last RunGood Poker Series event in September, Will Berry showed that he plays tournaments to win, unafraid of getting in a high-variance spot on the money bubble in which he ended up busting out. This time, at RunGood Downstream Casino Resort in Joplin, Missouri., the key flips went Berry's way as he topped a 205-player field to ship $25,522 and a $2,000 Blaycation package to the RunGood Cup Championship in New Orleans.

The win pushes the Oklahoma native's lifetime live tournament cashes to nearly $190,000.

Berry entered Day 2 as one of the shortest stacks in the 48-player field with just over 16 big blinds. He was able to grind his way from 49,000 to 148,000 by the time the money bubble burst at 21 players, and he then hit a key double when his {10-}{10-} held against the {7-}{7-} of Michael Beaty.

The final nine players all booked $2,000 Blaycation packages to the season-ending championship, and RunGood Pro Jonathan Gaviao busted on the package bubble in 10th when he lost a race to Daniel Hughes.

It was start-of-day leader Hasan Haq and fellow big stack Joey McCaig maintaining their positions on the road to the official final table, which Berry entered in eight of nine with 197,000 as blinds were set to rise to Level 20 (8,000/16,000/3,000). Eliminations came fast as John Blanken, Bobby Nair, Chris Pearce, Vinodkumar Paddolkar, and Hughes busted in quick succession during that level in ninth to fifth, respectively.

In the meantime, Berry made his move up the counts as he won two flips against Hughes, making sets both times with middle pairs. He then busted Lou Barlow in fourth, which set off a four-hour marathon of three-handed play between Berry, Haq, and McCaig. Eventually, Berry three-outed a short-stacked McCaig.

Berry and Haq then battled heads up for a few hours, and it was Berry controlling most of the action. Ultimately, it came down to one more race and Berry's {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} outflopped Haq's {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for the win as the board rolled out {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}.

All that remains for the RunGood Poker Series this season is the RunGood Cup Championship, which will take place in December in New Orleans. For more information, visit rungoodpokerseries.com.

Joey McCaig - 3rd Place

McCaig: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Berry: {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

The players are now on break.

Berry Doubles Through Haq

Hasan Haq made it 50,000 to go on the button. Will Berry three-bet to 135,000 in the big blind. After a couple of minutes of thought, Haq announced 350,000. Berry took about a minute then told the dealer he was all in. Haq called.

Haq: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Berry: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

"Oh, good," Haq said, relieved that Berry hadn't coolered him.

The {9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} flop gave Berry a big lead with kings, though.

"Right on the flop," Haq said softly before the turn and river ran out dead. "Don't complain about losing flips!"

"I would never do that," Berry said with a laugh.

Lou Barlow - 4th Place
Lou Barlow - 4th Place

Lou Barlow shoved from under the gun for a little over 100,000, and Will Berry called in the big blind.

Barlow: {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Berry: {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Barlow was dominated, and the first four cards came {5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to give him a straight draw. He hit his kicker on the {j-Spades} river but that gave Berry a straight.

Daniel Hughes Eliminated in 5th Place ($5,554)

Daniel Hughes - 5th Place
Daniel Hughes - 5th Place

Will Berry opened for 32,000 in the cutoff, and Daniel Hughes pushed all in on his left. The blinds mucked, and Berry counted down his stack and thought about a minute before calling off 385,000.

Berry: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Hughes: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Berry and Hughes were racing once more, and Berry again jumped out to a big lead with a set on the {7-Spades}{a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop. The {10-Hearts} turn brought a mighty sweat though since Hughes picked up two draws, but the river was the {5-Spades}.

Left with just five big blinds, Hughes initially doubled up when he shipped {k-}{6-} and hit a king against {a-}{9-}, but the next hand he jammed again with {a-}{7-} and Lou Barlow woke up with two kings behind him.

Vinodkumar Paddolkar - 6th Place
Vinodkumar Paddolkar - 6th Place

Joey McCaig opened under the gun to 45,000, and Hasan Haq called in the small blind. Big blind Vinodkumar Paddolkar made it 110,000 to go, and McCaig dropped in his whole stack of blue T25,000 chips. Haq folded, and Paddolkar announced a call then moved to expose his hand. The dealer stopped him, as the raise was 445,000, and Paddolkar had about 70,000 back. On the {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop, they put the rest in.

Paddolkar: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
McCaig: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Another monster for McCaig, and his hot run continued as the community came {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, no threat to the kings.

Chris Pearce - 7th Place

Chris Pearce got the last of his stack in from the button after Vinodkumar Paddolkar raised in the cutoff, but Pearce's {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts} was well behind Paddolkar's {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}.

Pearce let out a sigh when {q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs} hit the felt, giving Paddolkar a set. But the {3-Clubs} did bring some hope with a flush draw. The {6-Spades} river was not what he needed though, and Paddolkar took the pot.

McCaig dropped a single chip in and turned up two red aces. Nair held {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and a {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{4-Spades} board later, he was done.

McCaig: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Blanken: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The {3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flopped, giving Blanken little help. A {9-Clubs} brought an inside straight draw, but the {5-Spades} was a blank.

Action folded to Daniel Hughes, who moved all in from the small blind. Jonathan Gaviao immediately called off about 150,000 in the big.

Gaviao: {a-}{q-}
Hughes: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

Hughes flopped a set as {7-}{9-}{10-} hit the board and he turned a boat to leave the RunGood Pro drawing dead. The remaining players will all win the $2,000 Blaycation packages. They've gone on dinner for 45 minutes.
