Peek Out After Brutal Turn

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Austin Peek
Austin Peek

Austin Peek got his remaining chips in with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and was at risk against Joey McCaig, who had picked up {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} at a bad time. The flop brought {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, nothing for McCaig, but he found a {q-Diamonds} on the turn to leave Peek in bad shape. The {8-Spades} river gave Peek only an inferior boat.

Hughes Doubles Through McCaig

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Daniel Hughes shoved under the gun for 142,000, and Joey McCaig called right away after peeking at his hole cards in the big blind.

McCaig: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Hughes: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

McCaig flopped a set on {j-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts}, but Hughes wasn't dead since he had a double-gutshot. The {k-Spades} filled his straight but McCaig added a flush draw to his equity. The {9-Diamonds} didn't help him, and Hughes doubled up.

Hodge, Persinger Eliminated

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Paul Hodge
Paul Hodge

Joey McCaig opened on the button for 27,000, and Paul Hodge shoved in the big blind for 114,000.

"You got nines?" McCaig asked after some thought.

"Does it take nines?" Hodge said. "You must have queen-jack."

After another moment, McCaig called.

McCaig: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Hodge: {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

It didn't take nines since king-queen was best, and the {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Diamonds} board meant Hodge was done after missing his gutshot and his chopping outs.

At the other table, Bret Persinger got it in with {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} and lost a race to the {a-}{j-} of Lou Barlow when the latter made two pair.

False River for True

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Gail True
Gail True

Vinodkumar Paddolkar opened for 36,000 and called the shove of Gail True, who had only 49,000 total.

Paddolkar: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}
True: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

True took the lead with eights on the {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop. The {9-Diamonds} turn brought a straight draw for Paddolkar, and the {6-Hearts} got him there.

Pearce Eliminates Brenn

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Doug Brenn put his last 150,000 in preflop from middle position, and Chris Pearce woke up with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and called in the big blind. Brenn turned over {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}, but his three-outer had improved considerably after the first four community cards came {5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades} to give him a two-way straight draw. The {4-Spades} was a blank on the end though, and Pearce let out a deep breath.
