Transforming the Whiskey Roadhouse

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante
Whiskey Roadhouse being transformed.
Whiskey Roadhouse being transformed.

When it comes to Horseshoe Council Bluffs, there is no better place to be for entertainment than Whiskey Roadhouse, a combination of a bar, nightclub and concert venue. In fact, just a few days before the RunGood Poker Series rolled into town the cozy venue — which offers a full bar menu of signature tastes, creative cocktails, dancing and live entertainment on the weekends — hosted a show by rock band Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

In the past, Whiskey Roadhouse has even showcased intimate musical performances by Better than Ezra and Gavin Rossdale.

However, this weekend the venue has been transformed to house more than a dozen poker tables for the RunGood Poker Series, but don't worry, there's still a functioning bar!

Welcome to Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Council Bluffs

RunGood Council Bluffs

The RunGood Poker Series is here at Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa for the very first time. The property, which sits just across the river from Omaha, Nebraska has been hosting side events the past couple of days, but tonight at 7 p.m. local time the headline event, a $100K guaranteed $675 buy-in Main Event, will kick off with the first of three starting flights.

The Main Event, which will award the eventual winner a nice payday as well as a $10,000 seat into the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event, will host two more flights on Saturday, with 1b kicking off at 12:00 p.m. local time and 1c to follow at 7 p.m. The plan for all three flights, which will begin players with 20,000 starting stacks and feature 30-minute levels, is to play 12 levels before bagging and tagging.

The survivors will then return at 12:00 p.m. local time on Sunday to play down to a winner. For Day 2, Levels 13-21 will be 45 minutes long, and from there on out will be extended to one hour.

The stop has already proven to be an exciting affair. Things kicked off on Wednesday night when Tana Karn, the president of RunGood Gear, hosted a happy hour at Whiskey Roadhouse. Joining him were a slew of RunGood Ambassadors including Bernard Lee, Jordan Morgan, Jamie Kerstetter, Joe Hebda, Justin Gardenhire, Bryan Campanello, and Jonathan Gavaio, all of who are expected to join the Main Event fray.

“We’re ready to bring another great season of poker to players in 2015," said Founder and President of RunGoodGear.com Tana Karn. "We always have an amazing group that comes out with the priority to have fun. If you haven’t been to one of our series yet make sure you mark your calendar for one today.”

It was also on Wednesday night that the first tournament, $125 buy-in RG Bounty, took place. The event was a jovial affair and saw 181 entrants turn out. In the end Kevin Shimp emerged as the last man standing, a feat that earned him $4,388. Other RunGood Council Bluffs winners include Pen Dorhi, who topped a field of 260 players to win the RG DeepStack for $7,000, and Mark Fink of Sioux Falls, who won the RG Pot-Limit Omaha event for $3,113 after a four-way chop.

For today's Main Event, we're expecting some players to give the RunGood Ambassadors a run for their money. Ben Wiora, who recently topped a field of 463 players to win the Wisconsin State Poker Championship at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells for $114,512, made the trip alongside fellow Wisconsinite Dan Almerli. We've also spotted former MSPT champ Josh Reichard, so there's certainly going to be some stiff competition.

Cards will be in the air in a few hours, so stay tuned for all the action from Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Council Bluffs
