A player in middle position opened for 2,225 — a bet that was over 11 times the big blind. It was folded to Ryan Tepen in the small blind who made the call.
The flop came and Tepen checked to his opponent who put out three T5,000 chips for a bet of 15,000 total. Tepen, a successful tournament grinder with over half a million in lifetime winnings, snap-folded to the overbet.
Reginald Roberts opened the action with a raise to 600 from middle position and was called by Shaun McBride out of the small blind and Cornelius Johnson from the big blind.
The flop came and McBride checked. Johnson put out a bet of 1,200 and was called by Roberts and Johnson.
The turn was the and McBride checked again. Johnson fired another bet, this time for 1,125 and Roberts put in a raise to 4,300. McBride thought for a moment and put out the call and Johnson joined in as well creating a pot of over 18,000.
The river was the putting three diamonds on the board and all three players checked. Roberts turned over for a hand that improved on every street. He flopped second pair with an open-ended straight draw and added a flush draw on the turn. The river gave him the jack high straight.
That was good enough as McBride and Johnson both mucked. Roberts is off to a good start as he would end the hand with approximately 52,000 in chips.
A player in middle position limped in and Darren Lara, one to his left, raised it up. It was folded back to the limper who madet he call.
The flop came and the limper checked it over to Lara who bet 3,000. His opponent put in a check-raise to 7,000 and after a few moments of thought, Lara folded, showing the table a seven.
