Day 1a Completed
Day 1a of the RunGoodGear.com Downstream Casino Main Event saw a total of 95 entrants pony up the entry fee with a dream of returning on Sunday. By the end of the day, just 16 remained with Darren Attebery and his stack of 250,000 leading the way. Attebery went on a mad rush during the middle of the day to surge into the chip lead while crippling RunGoodGear pro and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Bryan Campanello over the course of two hands. It would be a lead he never relinquished.
Duy Nugyen bagged 205,500 in chips which was good enough for second. Rounding out the top three were Matt Newcombe with 184,000. Newcombe had a memorable hand towards the end of the day in which he labeled his play as "terrible." Others moving on include Bob Little (65,500), Rodney Spriggs (152,000), Andre Allen (135,000), Michele Lorett (109,500), and Terry Presley (148,000).
Of course there were plenty of recognizable names that failed to make it to the end of Day 1a including Amanda Baker, Lauren Blase, Jamie Kerstetter, Ryan Tepen, and the previously mentioned Campanello.
An even bigger turnout is expected on Saturday for the Day 1b and 1c flights, which will take place at 12:00 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time respectively. Of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be there through both flights to provide you coverage of all the comings and goings here at the RunGoodGear.com Main Event. Tune in to find out who moves on to the final day on Sunday.

We've only lost one player in the last thirty minutes. There is five minutes remaining before they call it a night. We'll have full chip counts soon.
A player has just been eliminated and the tournament staff is breaking a table which leaves them with two tables of nine players apiece. They will play another 25 minutes or until they lose four more players.

Players are now on a 15-minute break.
Lauren Blase moved all in under the gun for 34,700 and it was folded all the way around to the player in the big blind who thought for a moment before quietly announcing a call as he turned over . Blase tabled and was in good shape after the dealer put out a flop of .
The turn was the giving Blase's opponent a few more outs. It would be one of those outs that would come on the river as it was the to give him a straight.
"He has me covered?" asked Blase. The dealer confirmed that he did.
"Alright. Nice hand man," said Blase, whose day ended in disappointment just one level before play ended for the day.

We got to the table with a big pot brewing after Matt Newcombe and the player to his immediate left limping in. A third player limped as well and a short-stacked Reginald Roberts moved all in for his last 8,200. Newcombe called as did the player to his immediate left. The third limped moved all in causing Newcombe to go into the tank.
"I really don't know what you'd do that with," said Newcombe, who was looking at a stack of less than 20 big blinds in front of him. He decided to make the call and after the last remaining player folded Newcombe turned over one card, the while Roberts also turned over one card, the .
"Can we just run it out like this," Newcombe asked after his opponent turned over . The dealer wouldn't let that happen and after seeing Roberts , Newcombe said "I have that beat" as he turned over the .
The dealer moved Newcombe into the lead when he put out a flop of and he would maintain that lead and win the pot when the turn was the and the river was the .
Newcombe shook his head in disbelief. "That was terrible and I was rewarded. Nice play."
