Thornton Dominates Day 1b/c to Take Overall Lead

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Schuyler Thornton
Schuyler Thornton

Day 1b and Day 1c of RunGood Poker Series Hard Rock Tulsa drew 101 and 87 runners respectively, pushing the three-flight total to 281 and generating a prize pool of over $147,000. At the conclusion of the two 12-level flights, Schuyler Thornton, who bagged the lead on Day 1b, sits atop the counts with 301,500. That gives him a wide lead over Day 1c leader Matt Botzer, who finished with 208,000.

Thornton comes into the RunGood series red-hot after chopping Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold'em at River Poker Series in late August, topping a field of 1,558 entrants to bank $77,404.

The Texas native picked up kings in a dream spot in the big blind, seeing a raise to 4,000 in front of him and two calls at Level 10 (800/1,600/300). Thornton made it 16,000 to go and the opener shoved all in for about 50,000. The players in between folded and Thornton called, holding against {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} on a runout of {4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

Botzer also had good luck with {k-}{k-}, sitting down and seeing them in the hole on the very first hand he was dealt. He doubled through Robert Harp, who had {q-}{q-}. As the night wound down, he got the best of RunGood Pro Daniel Lowery in a massive pot, making eights full with {a-}{8-} on a board of {8-}{7-}{2-}{7-}{8-}. Botzer checked it back on the end, saying he hadn't realized he made the nut full house, and Lowery mucked what he said was deuces full.

Some of the notables who advanced to Day 2 included RunGood Pros Lowery (156,000), Dan "Wretchy" Martin (130,000), Samantha Abernathy (91,000), Bryan Campanello (41,500), and Ben Reason (36,500), as well as Rodney Spriggs (173,000), Will Berry (136,500), Daniel Hughes (122,500), and Greg Jennings (100,500).

RunGood Pros Ross Bybee and Justin Gardenhire, Horseshoe Council Bluffs poker room manager Andrew Brock, Terry Karn, Mike Tang, and Eric Bunch were among the players taking shots and failing to advance.

The 64 survivors will meet up Sunday at noon to play down to a champion who will claim $33,998 and a $2,000 Blaycation package to the season-ending championship in New Orleans. All final table participants will win packages as well. Be sure to check on the live reporting to see who takes the crown.

Bybee Won't Take Another

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Ross Bybee
Ross Bybee

Ross Bybee put in his last 30,000 or so in middle position and was called by Eric Thompson.

Thompson: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Bybee: {j-Spades}{9-Spades}

A sweat arrived with {2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Spades} giving Bybee a flush draw but he got no further help on the last two streets. The former RunGood Tulsa champ headed for the exits.

Greg Jennings

After Greg Jennings checked from the big blind, a middle-position player bet 3,500 on a board of {8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Mike Tang called on the button but Jennings woke up with an all-in shove for 16,275. The bettor made the call, and Tang folded.

Jennings: {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Jennings was in great shape against two pair. The board paired on the end but it was a harmless {8-Spades}.

A middle-position player checked to RunGood Pro Samantha Abernathy, who bet 6,000 from the button on a {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop. The middle player called and checked the {8-Hearts} turn. Abernathy dropped her last 20,000 in and her opponent thought about 30 seconds and called.

Abernathy: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Abernathy had he opponent crushed and faded the two-outer on the {8-Spades} river.

Wretchy Triples Up

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Dan "Wretchy" Martin, pictured here last year.
Dan "Wretchy" Martin, pictured here last year.

We found Dan "Wretchy" Martin all in for about 15,000 over a raise to 2,200 from a middle-position player. The player on Martin's left had put in his whole stack, covering Martin and the opener.

"I'm thinking about calling with seven-high," the opener said.

"I think we would both welcome a call with seven-high," Martin said with a laugh.

The player did decide to call with his stack of 20,400 holding {7-Spades}{5-Spades}. Martin showed {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and the other player had {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. The board ran out {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}, shipping the much larger main pot to Martin and the small side pot to the pair of sevens.

Jennings Accidentally Min-Bets

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Greg Jennings, pictured at RunGood Council Bluffs.
Greg Jennings, pictured at RunGood Council Bluffs.

We found Ross Bybee with a T5,000 chip in front of him on the button, representing an unknown bet amount on a {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs} board. Greg Jennings check-raised to 5,600 from middle position, and Bybee called. On the river, Jennings flicked his last T100 chip in the pot, thinking he was moving all in. But, the dealer hadn't given him change from the two T5,000 chips he put in when he announced his raise. The bet was ruled to be 100, and Bybee called.

Jennings showed {5-Spades}{3-Spades} for a flopped straight.

"I cost myself 4,000," he said.

Welcome to Day 1b of RunGood Poker Series Hard Rock Tulsa

Mike Tang
Mike Tang

There's a double-header on tap today in Tulsa, Okla. At noon, Day 1b of RunGood Poker Series Hard Rock Tulsa kicks off for a 12-level flight. That will be followed by Day 1c, which begins at 7 p.m. for a full day of poker action here in the heart of Oklahoma.

Yesterday, Day 1a drew a total of 94 runners for $675 apiece, and RunGood Pro Jonathan Gaviao stood above the rest when the dust settled as he bagged 192,500. He'll be joined by two fellow RunGood Pros: Colossus final table participant Ray Henson, who bagged 107,000 and Clint Tolbert, who finished with 48,500. A total of 21 survived the day.

For each Day 1 flight scheduled today, another 12 levels will be played, starting with blinds of 25/50 and progressing through 1,200/2,400/400. Players will start with stacks of 20,000 and each level will be 30 minutes, with a short break after every four levels. Players may reenter as many times as they wish through the first eight levels.

Some of those we expect to see today after falling short on Day 1a: Justin Gardenhire, Greg Jennings, Rodney Spriggs, Ben Reason, Mike Tang, and Will Berry.
