Welcome to Day 2 of RunGood Poker Series Council Bluffs

Justin Gardenhire
Justin Gardenhire

Two days of play at RunGood Council Bluffs have seen a field of 144 players pared to just 26. Today, one of those 26 will claim a first-place prize of $40,320 and a memorial plaque on the traveling RunGood Champions Cup.

Each of the two Day 1 flights reached a hard stop with 13 players left. Day 1b got there much earlier, and play will resume late in Level 13 (1,000/2,000/300) with about two minutes left on the clock. As with Day 1, all of the levels today will be 40 minutes long as part of the new, longer tournament structure.

Tom Leto is the man to catch early on as he bagged 328,800 in his fiery Day 1b run, good for a wide lead over second-place Russell Licking (240,500). RunGood Pros Justin Gardenhire (213,500), Michael Sanders (165,500), and Ryan Tepen (133,700) also remain in contention. The latter has taken down two RunGood events within the past year, including the RunGood Cup Championship.

Cards are scheduled to fly at 11 a.m. local time here in Council Bluffs, so stay tuned here on PokerNews to see who takes the first ever $1,100 Main Event on RunGood Poker Series.

Carlos Requena
Carlos Requena

Michael Sanders opened early and Carlos Requena shoved all in for about 65,000 on his immediate left. Everyone else folded, and Sanders called.

Sanders: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Requena: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, leaving Requena dead on the turn.

Players are on break for 15 minutes.

Mullin Eliminated on Bubble

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
JJ Feregrino
JJ Feregrino

Michael Sanders opened to 12,000 early and got shoved on by JJ Feregino, who had 45,500 on the button. Small blind James Mullin put his stack of about 75,000 in and Sanders called.

Sanders: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Mullin: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Feregrino: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

It was Feregino going worst to first on the {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} flop. The {8-Diamonds} turn and {3-Clubs} river preserved his aces, and Mullin's remaining chips went to Sanders after Feregrino tripled up.

Sanders, Cavanaugh Out

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Michael Sanders
Michael Sanders

Michael Sanders got his remaining chips in with {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} on a flop of {9-}{5-}{8-} with one diamond and was called by Russell Licking, who had {q-}{9-}. The turn brought a {10-Diamonds} to give Sanders more outs with an open-ended straight draw but a {2-Hearts} river missed him.

Casey Cavanaugh also busted out at that table.

Players are on break for 15 minutes.

Justin Gardenhire Eliminated in 9th Place ($4,464)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Justin Gardenhire
Justin Gardenhire

On a board of {3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{k-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, Justin Gardenhire bet 30,000 out of the big blind and Russell Licking, who had opened preflop, called in middle position. The river brought a {k-Spades} and Gardenhire fired again for 70,000.

"Really?" Licking asked after double-checking his cards. He moved all in.

Gardenhire seemed distressed about this development and stood up, saying he didn't see himself folding.

"Ace-five or flopped a set," he wondered aloud about hands Licking could have. He shoved in a stack to indicate he was calling his last 90,000. Licking flashed him {a-Spades}{5-Clubs} and the RunGood Pro mucked.

Andre Allen
Andre Allen

Andre Allen shoved for his last 40,000 or so on the button after Tom Leto limped in the cutoff. Leto called with {a-Spades}{q-Spades} and was dominating Allen's {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}, and Allen had straight and flush outs. Bricks fell on the last two streets though, sending him to a second eighth-place RunGood placing.

Jasen Currie shoved in from early position for 260,000, and Mike Sortino called in the big blind after about 30 seconds.

Currie: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Sortino: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Sortino opened up a big lead with two pair on the {q-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Hearts} flop and he held it through the {2-Hearts} turn and {3-Hearts} river.
