Welcome back to PokerNews coverage of the 2022 RunGood Poker Series "Contenders" Tour $575 Main Event. Saturday brings a pair of starting flights at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time that will close out the preliminary flights for this weekend's event.

Days 1b and 1c will all but guarantee the poker room inside Horseshoe Council Bluffs is either full or close to it until the wee hours of the morning, as hundreds of hopefuls will look to add their name to Sunday's Day 2 roster alongside the 38 that did so on Friday night's Day 1a, which drew a total of 252 entries to kick off the event.

Starting stacks remain at 20,000 for all Day 1 flights with Levels 1-12 each being 30 minutes in length before seeing an increase to 45 minutes apiece. There will be 15-minute breaks at the completion of Levels 4 and 8, with late registration remaining open through the second break until the beginning of Level 9 in each flight.

Last night's flight saw play extended into Level 13, scheduled to stop at approximately 40 remaining players. The final number wound up being 38, with Isidro Sandoval (331,000) bagging the chip lead. Everybody in today's flights will be gunning for that number with the hopes of calling themselves the overall Day 1 chip leader.

Keep it here at PokerNews all day long for updates from the action.

Aces Up for Snook

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Matthew Snook
Matthew Snook

Under the gun pumped it up to 600 and action folded around to the player on the button, who called. Matthew Snook called in the small blind as well, and the big blind came along to take postflop action four ways.

Snook led out for 1,600 on {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and the big blind called. The original raiser and player on the button then folded.

Action continued heads up to the turn {7-Clubs} and Snook bet another 2,200. His opponent called, and Snook fired 2,200 again on the river {5-Spades}. His opponent called once more.

Snook showed {a-Spades}{6-Spades} for a flopped two pair, aces and sixes. His opponent mucked and the pot was shipped his way.

Petree Cracks Aces To Double

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Chase Petree
Chase Petree

All of the chips went into the middle preflop with Chase Petree ultimately committing his stack of 16,100 on the button and receiving action from an opponent in middle position.

Petree: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Petree needed a queen and immediately found one on {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. With both players holding two red cards, the turn {6-Spades} brought sweat to a backdoor flush draw. Petree had to fade two outs once more to double with his set of queens, and he did just that as the {k-Spades} completed the runout.

Steuer Sends One to the Showers

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
RGPS $420 Golden Ticket Main Event Champion Nathan Steuer
RGPS $420 Golden Ticket Main Event Champion Nathan Steuer

November 2021 RGPS Council Bluffs $420 Golden Ticket Main Event winner Nate Steuer raised to 1,100 in early position and action folded around to the small blind, who three-bet to 2,200. Steuer called.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} and the small blind continuation-bet 3,000. Steuer called.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and the small blind checked. Steuer put out 15,000, more than enough to put his opponent all in, and a call was made.

Small Blind: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Steuer: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Steuer's top pair needed to fade the case queen to cede the double as well as the four jacks in the deck that would bring a chop, and he did just that as the {2-Hearts} completed the runout to earn him the pot and the knockout.

Jennings Felted

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Greg Jennings
Greg Jennings

A short-stacked Greg Jennings raised to 2,000 under the gun and received calls from players in middle position and on the button. Mark Rathe defended his big blind and then checked on {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.

Next to act, Jennings went all in for his last handful of chips, roughly a pot-sized bet, and received two folds before Rathe made the call.

Jennings: {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Rathe: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Jennings had flopped a flush draw and a gutshot straight draw, the latter of which could only earn him a chop. Unfortunately for him, none of his outs came as {j-Clubs}{k-Clubs} completed the runout and he was eliminated by Rathe as a result.

Frenzel Spotted

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Brian Frenzel in Day 1a action
Brian Frenzel in Day 1a action

After busting yesterday's Day 1a, Event #2 Champion ($135 Pro Bounty) Brian Frenzel was just seen in the field with action folding to him on the button. He opened to 2,500 and both blinds called.

Action checked through the flop {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and the turn came {7-Hearts}. Both blinds checked once more, with Frenzel asking the big blind if he had checked. Upon receiving confirmation, Frenzel bet 4,000.

However, the dealer misunderstood Frenzel's question as a verbal announcement of a check and brought a premature {7-Hearts} to complete the board before looking up and seeing chips on the felt. The inevitable floor call was to made once everybody involved clarified the situation, but it proved to be unnecessary as both blinds opted to fold after knowing Frenzel's intention.
