Stanford Falls To Nasty River

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Ivan Balanza opened to 15,000 on the button but then Cody Stanford three-bet shoved all in for around 70,000.

"If you got me, you got me," Balanza shrugged as he made the call, putting Stanford at risk.

Cody Stanford: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Ivan Balanza: {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Stanford was ahead going into this matchup, and was still in the lead on the {6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs} turn, but the {7-Diamonds} on the river was not his friend as it gave Balanza a straight. Stanford was stunned as his chips were pushed to Balanza and he quickly exited the tournament area.

Bagamaspad Gets There

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Rich Alsup opened to 15,000 under-the-gun but was then three-bet to 50,000 by Jeff Bagamaspad in late position.

Alsup made the call and the two went heads-up to a flop of {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Alsup then moved all in for 50,000 and Bagamaspad snap-called, putting Alsup at risk.

Rich Alsup: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Jeff Bagamaspad: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Alsup was technically ahead with his ace-king high, but Bagamaspad had a lot of outs with his flush draw. The turn {7-Hearts} didnt do it for him, but the {q-Hearts} on the river gave him a pair of queens to win the pot and eliminated Alsup in the process.

Back-to-Back Hands with Delasierra

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Miguel Delasierra
Miguel Delasierra

Tavish Margers opened to 15,000 from middle position and was called by Miguel Delasierra on the button.

The flop was {2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and both players decided to check to the {7-Diamonds} turn.

Margers then led out for 25,000 and Delasierra made the call to see the river fall the {2-Diamonds}.

Margers fired again for 40,000 and Delasierra went into the tank to weigh his options.

After a good minute or so of deliberation, he tossed his chips into the middle to make the call. He was then shown {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} by Margers for a turned set and rivered full house to win the pot.

"Ugh how do I not bet flop there," Delasierra groaned as Margers was pushed the pot.

Fortunately for Delasierra, he won 35,000 of it back the next hand when Fred Galvan shoved with ace-ten and Delasierra called with ace-king and held to knock out Galvan.

Connors Doubles With Kings

Level 15 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Stefan DeLorenzo opened to 20,000 from under-the-gun bt then Bill Connors shoved all in for around 100,000 in the late position.

Action folded back around to DeLorenzo who quickly made the call, putting Connors at risk.

Bill Connors: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Stefan DeLorenzo: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Connors was already ahead going into this battle, and the flop of {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Clubs} improved him to top set. He was still not out of the woods yet, as DeLorenzo could still hit a club for a flush, but the runout of {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts} was safe for Connors and he scored a double up.

Lower Eliminated as Bubble Bursts to End Day 1a

Level 16 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Cato Lower
Cato Lower

Cato Lower moved all in for his last 60,000 and was called by Stefan DeLorenzo, putting him at risk.

Cato Lower: {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Stefan DeLorenzo: {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Lower was ahead with his ace-high going in, but the flop of {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{j-Clubs} gave DeLorenzo the lead with a pair of jacks. The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} to secure DeLorenzo's victory and eliminated Lower on the stone bubble while the remaining players made the money.

Day 1a is now officially over and the remaining 11 players have begun the bagging process. A full chip count and recap of the day will be released shortly.
