Marsha Adams Bags Day 1a Chip Lead at RGPS Tulsa Main Event

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Marsha Adams

A fast and furious evening of action saw the final 17 players in Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Tulsa $600 Main Event bag chips for Day 2, led by Marsha Adams of Joplin, Missouri with 596,000 chips.

Those 17 players represent the top 12.5 percent of the 130-player Day 1a field, who have all guaranteed themselves at least a min-cash when they return for Day 2 on Sunday at noon local time.

The only other player to bag up more than 500,000 chips was Adam Higbee, who doubled up near the end of the night to boost his stack to its lofty endpoint.

Not far behind them though is Daniel Lowery, who is the all-time money leader in the state of Arkansas with over $2.2 million in career tournament earnings. He bagged up a very healthy 411,000 chips.

Day 1a Action

While Adams, Higbee, and Lowery were all strong throughout the evening, it was late surges in the final level from Adams and Higbee that vaulted them to their places atop the leaderboard.

Adams was the recipient of Daniel Hughes’ 200,000 chip stack when she won a flip with pocket tens against Hughes’ ace-queen. She added to her stack further after that to solidify her end-of-night chip lead.

Higbee gave her a run for that title in the final minutes of play when he earned a huge double-up with pocket queens against Joseph Ferguson and his pocket jacks.

They’ll have the stacks to chase Saturday when the final two opening flights are played with Day 1b starting at noon local time and Day 1c kicking off at 6 p.m.

Among those that will have to try again Saturday after failing to make it through Friday’s flight are RunGood ambassadors Ray Henson, Kris Burchfield, and Julie Cornelius. Other notables that will need to try to find a bag Saturday include former WPT Choctaw Main Event runner-up William Berry and winner of the RunGood Tulsa Studio Ticket event, John Reynolds.

Two More Chances Saturday

As mentioned, two more opening flights will be played Saturday with the top 12.5 percent of those flights joining Friday’s survivors in Day 2. As well as those who didn’t survive Day 1a, any who did but would like another shot at building a larger stack will have the opportunity to do so. They would then forfeit any smaller stacks, but would also collect another min-cash.

Play ended with 11:47 left in level 13, which will be the starting point of Day 2 Sunday unless either of Saturday’s flights end at an earlier point.

Saturday will also see the $100,000 guarantee easily surpassed and likely smashed to build a massive prizepool.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for continued Main Event coverage from the incredible Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa until a champion is crowned Sunday.

Adams Wins Huge Flip to Vault Near Chip Lead

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Marsha Adams
Marsha Adams

In likely the biggest pot of the night, after Daniel Hughes raised in the cutoff, Marsha Adams moved all in from the button with Hughes' nearly 200,000 chip stack covered.

Hughes made the call and a massive pot was about to be won by someone.

Daniel Hughes: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Marsha Adams: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The dealer spread a board of {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Spades}, giving Adams a jack-high straight and sending Hughes to the rail.

With the win, Adams now has one of the biggest stacks in the room as the day 2 bubble approaches.

The Force is Strong With This One

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Scott Robertson
Scott Robertson

Scott Robertson, who is known at the poker table as "Yoda", recently showed that the force is indeed strong within him as he eliminated an opponent in impressive fashion.

Yoda's opponent was all in for approximately 22,000 against him and in a flipping situation.

Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Scott Robertson: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Robertson clearly used a Jedi mind trick on the dealer as he spread a flop of {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, giving him quad fives and ending the hand instantly, leaving the turn and river irrelevant.

Jones Brings the Backraise

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jerry Jones
Jerry Jones

After Jerry Jones limped in early position, Marsha Adams raised to 3,700 to his immediate left.

The button called, and then Jones backraised to 16,200. After a bit of thought, Adams made the call and the button folded.

The flop came {5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Jones moved all in for about 40,000.

Adams folded and got a courtesy showing from jones of {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.

"I was just praying for no ace," said Jones as he dragged the pot.

Roberts Doubles Through Hill

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Brazos Roberts
Brazos Roberts

After an early position raise to 2,200, Brazos Roberts moved all in for 14,200. Dustin Hill moved in over the top for more and the early position player folded.

Brazos Roberts: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Dustin Hill: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Roberts had his friend coolered with his kings over queens, and after the dealer spread a flop of {k-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, the hand was virtually over. The {j-Diamonds} turn and {7-Hearts} river cinched the hand for Roberts who is back over a starting stack.

Rough Start Continues for Cornelius

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante
Julie Cornelius
Julie Cornelius

William McCracken has just sent Julie Cornelius to the registration desk for a third entry after putting a bad beat on her.

According to McCracken, Cornelius raised to 700 and was three-bet to 2,000 by McCracken.

Cornelius just called, then bet 4,000 on a {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop. McCracken raised to 12,000, Cornelius moved all in and was called by McCracken.

Julie Cornelius: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
William McCracken: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

McCracken's flopped set of jacks had cracked Cornelius' aces, and after a runout with the {7-Hearts} and {2-Clubs}, Cornelius headed to the lounge for a quick break before she hops back into the action.
