Cash Game Legend George Wolfe Takes Down the 2025 RunGood Jacksonville Main for $92,817

Level 28 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
George Wolfe
George Wolfe

George Wolfe is a name that strikes fear into anyone who plays poker in the Jacksonville area. The local cash game crusher, originally from Columbus, Ohio, is one of the most well-known players in the cash game world, but tournaments are an arena he rarely enters.

However, this weekend at the 2025 RGPS Mission RunGood Jacksonville $1,200 Main Event, Wolfe showed that he can get it done in a tournament situation as well.

The flagship main event drew 465 hopefuls gunning for the title. However, by the end of the night Sunday, Wolfe was the one hoisting the RunGood ring and the bestbet trophy.

He came into the day as the third biggest stack in the room and dominated throughout the day on his way to the first-place prize of $92,817.

Winner’s Reaction

Wolfe was quick to mention his inexperience when it comes to tournaments.

“I’ve played three tournaments in eight years and this was one of them.”

“I love cash because you get to play super deep which I enjoy. Thanks to RunGood for the amazing tournament structure because I was comfortable playing deep the entire time.”

Wolfe seems to be confident in his abilities at the table, but it wasn’t until a pivotal heads-up hand until the reality of a massive title began to sink in.

“The hand where I rivered the gutterball straight was huge. It was a massive moment when I finally felt that I was going to win.”

Wolfe was quick to give a shoutout to his wife and friend Jeff who were on the rail throughout the final table to support him. He now has 92,817 reasons to celebrate with them!

The Day’s Action

Across three opening flights, a total of 465 entries were tallied to create a prizepool of $483,600. 59 bags were collected with two double-bags, so 57 players were seated to begin Day 2. Play began with the blinds at 2,000/3,000, which is much deeper than the typical Day 2 environment.

With many short stacks returning for Day 2, the bustouts came quick and fast to start the day.

Some of the early casualties included RunGood ambassadors Maggie Fox (52nd-$2,034) and Kristopher Burchfield (49th-$2,034). The legendary Terakun Karnchanakphan, better known as Papa Karn, fell in 45th for $2,280.

Other notables to fall before the final table include Bryan Paris (42nd-$2,280), WPT champion Michael Vela (21st-$3,490), and defending champion Dimas Martinez (18th-$4,134).

David Trager was eliminated in brutal fashion in 13th after being the victim of boat under boat as fireworks erupted on the river in a pivotal pot of the tournament.

With the elimination of Kenneth Baker in 10th place, the final nine players took a dinner break and combined at the beautiful feature table setup here at bestbet Jacksonville. George Wolfe came into the final table with the chip lead as he had over 100 big blinds. Shane Scorza was on his right with 66 big blinds, whereas the rest of the table was all under 40 big blinds.

After a few short stack doubles, Aja Owens was the first to hit the rail. She would jam ace-seven suited for six big blinds over an open and could not improve against Shane Scorza’s ace-eight suited.

Aja Owens

The next to fall was Kelly Slay in eighth. She became very short stacked and jammed eight-three suited under the gun and fell to the king-six of George Wolfe.

Nick Costa was the next casualty in seventh place. He would jam his short stack with ace-nine over an open and was called by eight-two suited. A deuce would come on the river to end his day in brutal fashion.

The next casualty was Edward Mroczkowski in sixth. He was the victim of a cooler as he ran pocket jacks into pocket queens and could not improve as he made his way from the final table back to the commentary booth.

Shortly after, Nikhil Sunku busted in fifth place. He jammed his short stack from the small blind with ace-nine and was called by the ten-nine suited of Phuoc Nguyen. Nguyen would turn two pair to come from behind and eliminate Sunku.

The next to fall was Phuoc Nguyen who limp-called his final ten big blinds from the small blind with queen-nine and could not improve against the ace-jack of Shane Scorza.

Damian Brewster, who is no stranger to deep runs in Jacksonville, was the next casualty in third. He flopped top pair against the trips of Wolfe and could not improve after the chip found their way into the middle as he hit the rail.

The heads-up battle between Wolfe and Scorza would last less than 20 minutes, with Wolfe coming in with a two-one chip advantage.

Shane Scorza

In a pivotal early hand, Wolfe would overbet the turn with a gutter and get there on the river to take a commanding lead.

A few hands later, Scorza would limp the button with queens and Wolfe checked with eight-six. Wolfe would flop top two pair and all the chips found their way into the middle. Scorza did not improve as Wolfe took down the title!

That does it for PokerNews’s coverage of the 2025 RGPS Mission RunGood Jacksonville $1,200 Main Event. Stay tuned as we continue to cover poker tournaments from around the world.
