Stapleton Scores First Knockout of the Day
Day 1d of the Main Event has just recorded its first casualty, with Liam Schmidt recently falling to Joe Stapleton, who recounted the two hands that led to Schmidt's elimination.
According to Stapleton, he opened from under the gun to 400, and Schmidt three-bet to 2,400 from the button. Stapleton called.
The flop came Q♠9♥8♠, and Stapleton checked. Schmidt fired a 2,400 continuation-bet, Stapleton check-raised to 9,000, and Schmidt called.
Stapleton check-called a 13,000 bet from Schmidt on the 2♦ turn, before both players checked the 10♦ river. Stapleton showed 10♠9♠ for two pair to win the hand, taking a big chunk out of Schmidt's stack.
The following hand saw Schmidt get his remaining chips in preflop with pocket sevens, only to lose a flip against Stapleton's ace-king after Stapleton spiked an ace on the river.
