Joel Doney was originally from New Orleans, but moved to the Austin, Texas area approximately five years ago.
Doney began playing during the Moneymaker boom and primarily played cash games up, but he has taken a shine to tournaments in the last several years, and he has done well for himself as he boasts over $600,000 in career earnings according to The Hendon Mob.
"I had a couple of big scores in tournaments, and I got the itch," Doney said. "You just have so many more (tournaments). I think they've been able to grow the ecosystem."
Doney has played at The Lodge Card Club since he moved to the area and stated that he likes how the room has a "home game feel" that he feels they have maintained to this day.
Now with the RunGood Poker Series coming to town, players like Doney have even more options for tournaments.
"Organizations like RunGood help bring more people in," Doney said. "Great series. Looking forward to the next ones."
