Licking Bets "A Lot"

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

A player limped in from under the gun, and Russell Licking, who was runner-up in a 2016 RunGood Poker Series Main Event at this casino, raised to 500 from the hijack. The blinds both called, as did the under-the-gun player.

Action checked to Licking on a {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop, and he thought for a moment before plunking down a column of chips totaling 18,000.

"A lot," the dealer deadpanned after seeing the bet amount.

The small blind quickly folded, while the big blind took a minute in the tank to think things through before releasing his hand. After the under-the-gun player folded, Licking looked back at his cards and revealed the {a-Hearts} before claiming the pot.

From the big blind, Tyrell Lyle bet 3,000 on the turn of a {6-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} board into a pot of around 9,000, and his lone opponent in the cutoff called.

Lyle slowed down with a check on the {6-Spades} river, and his opponent followed suit. Lyle showed {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for kings-up, and his opponent mucked.

Fredlund Starts Off With the Nuts

A player limped in from early position, and the cutoff raised to 300. RecPoker Founder Steve Fredlund called on the button, as did the early-position limper.

Action checked to Fredlund on a {j-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Spades} flop, and he bet 400. Both of his opponents called.

Action checked through the {6-Hearts} turn, and the {8-Hearts} fell on the river. The early-position player bet 200, and the cutoff folded. Fredlund raised to 500, and the early-position player called.

"Nuts," Fredlund said, tabling {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. The early-position player showed a defeated {k-}{j-}, and Fredlund took down the early pot.

A Look Back at June's RGPS Horseshoe Council Bluffs $575 Main Event

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Freeman Kauffman
Freeman Kauffman

This isn't the first time that the RunGood Poker Series has hosted an event at the Horseshoe Council Bluffs Poker Room this year, as earlier in June, a RGPS record 851 entrants played a $575 Main Event here, seeking not just an All-Stars ProAm seat, but a coveted RGPS ring as well. The tournament was eventually chopped eleven-ways, a rarity scarcely seen but heartily approved by all of the remaining players.

Waverley, Iowa Native Freeman Kauffman, playing his first-ever casino tournament, was crowned the official champion after taking down the final table, taking home $26,058 for his efforts. Kauffman's day started strong, including getting lucky with tens to bust Adrian Jimenez and his queens in a significant pot with 14 players remaining to boost his stack. From there, he ran his stack up once the chop was agreed upon, and earned a victory on his very first live casino tournament.

When asked about the experience, Kauffman said, "The first time I bought in, it was kinda intimidating. But by the third time, I got comfortable." The third bullet proved to be the charm, as he earned quite a healthy payday for a self-described "home game tournament player".

Welcome to Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Council Bluffs Golden Ticket Main Event

Horseshoe Council Bluffs
Horseshoe Council Bluffs

In "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", possessing a Golden Ticket netted the owner access to a world of pure imagination in the form of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. For players in today's RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Council Bluffs $420 Golden Ticket Main Event, the goal is not only the top prize in the $40,000 Guaranteed tournament, but a Golden Ticket of their own that will earn them access to an exclusive tournament in December.

Players in today's Day 1a flight will begin with 20,000 in tournament chips, and once the action kicks off at 10 a.m. CST, blinds will start at 100/100 and increase every 30 minutes through Level 12. The final three levels scheduled for the evening will be 45 minutes in length, and play will conclude at the end of Level 15 or under the Tournament Director's discretion, whichever comes first. Players may re-enter and late register up through the break at Level 8. One final flight will begin Saturday, November 12th at 10 a.m., and survivors from the two starting flights will reconvene on Sunday, November 13th at 10 a.m. to play down to a champion.

That champion will earn the aforementioned Golden Ticket, which gives them a coveted seat in the RGPS All-Stars ProAm on December 11th and 12th. The inaugural RGPS: All-Star ProAm event will take place inside the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the 64-player field will include 32 players that qualified at various events throughout the RGPS season (including three more qualifiers during this series), along with 32 invited players that include celebrities, streamers, and poker industry members. All of the action will be streamed on PokerGo, as well, so players looking to make their mark in front of a viewing audience will be looking to nab one of the last Golden Tickets to be handed out before the ProAm gets underway.

PokerNews will be on hand all weekend long with all the action from Horseshoe Council Bluffs, so be sure to stay tuned as one of the last All-Stars ProAm seats is handed out in this weekend's Main Event!
