Carrel Tops 15 Survivors on Day 1 of Event-24-H: $10,300 NLHE; Mateos and Kanit in Contention

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Day 1 Chip Leader Charlie Carrel
Day 1 Chip Leader Charlie Carrel

Another exciting day of High Roller action has finished during the 2020 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and the money bubble has burst to determine the 15 finalists in Event SCOOP Event-24-H: $10,300 NLHE High Roller. They are all guaranteed a portion of the $1,240,000 prize pool after beating the majority of the 124-entry strong field and have $22,662.11 locked up for the efforts.

Two-time SCOOP champion Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel will lead the charge for the top prize of $271,790.44 with a stack of 5,630,571 when the action resumes the following day at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard time and the Brit was also responsible for the money bubble to burst. However, especially early on, things didn't look as good as Carrel was on the verge of re-entry but managed to spin up a shorter stack before turning on the heat in the late stages.

Second in chips is Russian player "Futti18" with 4,727,954 and third-placed Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos (3,191,654) also already has a SCOOP title under his belt. The remaining field is not shy of big names and High Roller regulars either. Wiktor "limitless" Malinowski sits in fourth with 2,777,856 followed by Luke "Bit2Easy" Reeves (2,505,299), Mustapha "lasagnaaammm" Kanit advanced with 1,816,852 and seeks a third SCOOP title.

Other notables in contention are Joao "Naza114" Vieira (1,685,473), Sergi "srxakgirona" Reixach (1,331,057), Teun "tinnoemulder" Mulder (974,679), Finnish high stakes cash game specialist "makeboifin" (901,644), Vicent "gordon0410" Bosca (848,941) and recent SCOOP champion Ilya "Leqenden" Anatsky (435,453).

Big names that joined the rail throughout the day were the 2020 SCOOP champions "Körrinho", Jorryt "TheCleaner11" van Hoof and Artur "mararthur1" Martirosyan, as well as the online superstars Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson and Niklas "Lena900" Astedt.

The field was rapidly reduced from the last four to two tables with several eliminations in quick succession as Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer, Mikita "fish2013" Badziakouski, Matthias "iambest2" Eibinger, Orpen "OrpTheTurk" Kisacikoglu, and Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz all departed.

Fedor Holz
No cash for Fedor Holz this time

Holz lost a flip with eights versus ace-queen as Joao "Naza114" Vieira flopped a queen, and failed to repeat his deep run of the previous day when he finished second in Event #17. Moments later Kisacikoglu four-bet jammed a suited ace into the queens of Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos. A turned flush was no good as Mateos rivered a full house.

Badziakouski with ace-king and Joris “BillLewinsky” Ruijs wit pocket tens fell victim of the hot run of Carrel, who held aces and vaulted to the top of the leaderboard. Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov was also among those to leave empty-handed, along with O'Dwyer and Pedro "pvigar" Garagnani.

Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou was then the unfortunate bubble boy when his kings failed to hold up against the ace-seven suited of Carrel in a three-bet pot when the chips went in after a paired queen-high board. Carrel's flushdraw didn't hit but he instead caught an ace right away on the turn to end the day on the spot.

The action resumes on May 6th, 2020, as of 1 p.m. EST with blinds of 20,000/40,000 and a running ante of 5,000. All levels from now and until the conclusion of the tournament will last 30 minutes each. The PokerNews team will be there to provide the action from start to finish.

Carrel Busts Zhou to Burst the Bubble

Level 20 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Another open raise to 88,000 by Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel this time resulted in a three-bet of Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou, who clicked it up to 312,566 in the small blind. Carrel came along to the {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} flop and Zhou continued for 312,568 with 916,564 behind. Carrel moved all in and Zhou made the call for the first showdown on the money bubble.

Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Along with the nutflush draw, Carrel also had one overcard and struck gold on the {a-Diamonds} turn to take the lead. Zhou needed a king or ten to avoid the elimination but a blank {5-Diamonds} on the river let the bubble burst.

Big Names Fall Short of the Money

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 3,750 ante

Matthias "iambest2" Eibinger departed and he was shortly after followed by several other players as the field suddenly jumped to only 23 players remaining.

"Körrinho" has to postpone a second SCOOP victory this year when he came up short with {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} of Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou, both players ended up making a full house on the {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Spades}{j-Hearts} board.

Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz flipped with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} against Joao "Naza114" Vieira, who held {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. The {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop improved Vieira while Holz picked up a lot of outs on the {10-Clubs} turn. The {3-Diamonds} river, however, was a blank and the German wunderkind was gone.

The final three tables were already reached by then and Orpen "OrpTkeTurk" Kisacikoglu lost a two million chip pot against Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos. Just shy of one million in chips, Kisacikoglu four-bet jammed the {a-Spades}{5-Spades} and was called by Mateos with {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}.

The {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop added a flushdraw and straight draw for Kisacikoglu, who improved on the {q-Spades} turn. But the {7-Diamonds} river restored the preflop order and felted the High Roller regulaar.

26071985 eliminated by Pass_72
26071985 eliminated by Pass_72

Another three players have been eliminated and among them has also been Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang. The German was on his third bullet and won't be eligible to anymore.

In his final hand, Vogelsang three-bet an open raise of Pascal "Pass_72" Lefrancois from 21,500 to 95,000 when in the big blind and he called the shove of the Canadian for an effective 49 big blinds to set up the following coin flip:

Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Pascal "Pass_72" Lefrancois: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Lefrancois nailed the {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop and remained in the lead on the {k-Diamonds} turn and {6-Spades} river to jump above 1.1 million in chips.

"NoTilit" and Leonard Depart

Level 11 : 4,500/9,000, 1,125 ante

In a battle button versus big blind, "NoTilit" was at risk with {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and big stack Vicent "gordon0410" Bosca took the flip with {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}. The {q-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} board kept Bosca in the lead and he scooped the pot with queens full of tens.

Another big stack belongs to Pedro "pvigar" Garagnani, who sent Patrick "pads1161" Leonard to the rail. Preflop, Garagnani opened to 18,000 and called a three-bet to 58,500 by Leonard on the button.

Once Garagnani called, the flop came {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs} and the Brazilian check-called a bet of 67,500. He did so again for 76,500 on the {k-Hearts} turn and checked the {a-Spades} river. Leonard jammed for the last 207,463 and was instantly called to reveal {q-Spades}{10-Spades} for a bluff, which Garagnani had beat with the {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for a set of fours.

Shakerchi Busts; Holz Triples

Level 9 : 3,500/7,000, 875 ante

Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi got his stack in preflop with the {k-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} against the {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} of "EEE27" and the flop of a {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts} board left him drawing dead. He re-entered for the third and final bullet to end up in the very same seat again.

Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz, who finished runner-up yesterday in Event #17-H, had entered not long ago and just prevailed in a three-way all-in that also featured Ole "wizowizo" Schemion and Daniel "Oxota" Dvoress. Schemion four-bet shoved out of the big blind and Dvoress as initial raiser in the cutoff came along, as did Holz as shortest stack of the trip for 155,561.

The kings held for Holz to triple up while Schemion with ace-jack and Dvoress with ace-king chopped.

One hand later, Dvoress took a flip against Luke "Bit2Easy" Reeves with {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} versus {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} and the {j-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs} board brought no help for the Canadian.

vicenfish eliminated by SamRostan

Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou forced an expensive fold from "silentm0de" and remained active to play the biggest pot of the tournament so far two hands later in a battle button versus small blind to bust Vicente "vicenfish" Delgado.

It was three-bet action with a raise to 9,000 and a reraise to 31,500 by Delgado which led to the {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop and Delgado check-called a bet of 39,243. After the {4-Spades} turn, Delgado check-jammed for 319,520 when facing a bet worth 115,374 and was called by Zhou.

Vicente "vicenfish" Delgado: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}

A preflop raising war ended up in the all-in and call between Jordi "prot0" Urlings and Chun Lei "SamRostan" Zhou with the former at risk.

Urlings had the bets of it heading into the showdown for a pot of more than 540k when he tabled the {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, as Zhou was trailing with the {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}.

However, the board came {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and that sent the Malta-based Dutchman to the rail for now.

A few seconds later, Vicente "vicenfish" Delgado stated the obvious in chat: "good flop".

Get Ready For More High Roller Action on Day 1 of SCOOP Event #24-H: $10,300 NLHE High Roller

Follow the 2020 SCOOP on PokerNews
Follow the 2020 SCOOP on PokerNews

The sixth day of the 2020 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) will provide the second five-digit buy-in of the series in SCOOP Event #24-H: $10,300 NLHE High Roller as of 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), which will be played in an eight-max format. Some of the biggest names of the offline and online poker world are expected to battle for yet another SCOOP title and their share of the $1,000,000 guarantee.

Fewer than 24 hours ago the first five-figure buy-in wrapped up as Artur "mararthur1" Martirosyan denied Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz a second SCOOP title and claimed his own maiden victory of the flagship online poker series. Both are very likely to take another shot today along with many of those that were in action in Event 17-H: $10,300 NLHE High Roller the previous two days.

The structure is slightly deeper than the predecessor with 18 levels of 20 minutes each followed by 30-minute levels for the remainder of the tournament. All participants receive 250,000 in chips and can re-enter up to two times during the registration period, which lasts for five hours and five minutes of play. For each one hour of play, the initial 60-second time bank will be topped up by another 10 seconds.

A champion won't be crowned today as the tournament is scheduled to conclude for Day 1 as soon as the money bubble has been burst and the remaining contenders then return the following day at 1 p.m. EST.

The PokerNews team will be there from start to finish and provide conclusive updates of the high stakes action.
