Welcome to Day 1 of the 2020 SCOOP Event 33-H: $10,300 NLHE PKO High Roller

SCOOP2020
SCOOP2020

Several progressive knockout tournaments have already determined their respective winners during the 2020 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and the most expensive one to date will play down to a champion within the next two days. Event 33-H: $10,300 NLHE PKO High Roller will certainly attract some of the biggest names in poker and promises to deliver non-stop action from start to finish thanks to the ever-growing bounty prizes.

Of the $10,300 buy-in, $5,000 are added to the cash prize pool and the second $5,000 are added to the bounty pool. Each time a player is eliminated, 50% of their current bounty is awarded to the player who eliminated them and the remaining 50% is added to that player's bounty.

Since all participants can re-enter twice during the registration period which lasts for 4 hours and 45 minutes, it is technically possible to knock out the same opponent up to three times and sweeten the memories with an instant payday of at least $2,500.

The event comes with a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000 and kicks off at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), upon registration a starting stack of 250,000 is awarded. The first 18 levels last 20 minutes each whereas all following levels increase to a duration of 30 minutes each. For every hour played, the 60-second time bank will be topped up by an additional 10 seconds. Players who reach the final table will receive 90 additional seconds in their pursuit of a six-figure cash and the elusive SCOOP title.

Day 1 will play down all the way to the money and then top for the night, all survivors will return the following day at 1 p.m. EST to play down to a champion. You can follow all the high stakes action right here on PokerNews from start to finish!

Veldhuis Runs Kings Into Aces

Level 3 : 1,600/3,200, 400 ante

While Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis dodged the curse of the first hand of the last year, nothing much went his way in the first two and a half levels. He dropped to half the starting stack and then opened, online crusher Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson three-bet and the PokerStars ambassador ripped it in for 123,680 to get snap-called by Mattsson.

Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

The board came {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and Velhuis was gone on the first bullet.

Amy Schumer, Bryan Cranston & Other Celebs to Play 'Stars Call for Action' Charity Event This Saturday

Level 4 : 1,800/3,600, 450 ante
Stars CALL For Action
Stars CALL For Action

This Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT, PokerStars will play host to the “Stars Call for Action” charity event featuring dozens of A-list celebrities.

Amy Schumer, Bryan Cranston, Michael Cera, Jon Hamm, Neymar Jr., Don Cheadle, Jeff Garlin, David Schwimmer and Edward Norton are among those confirmed to play the “Stars Call for Action – Powered by PokerStars,” which will be live reported here on PokerNews. It will also broadcast live on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube.

Noted actor and poker player Hank Azaria and director/screenwriter Andy Bellin played key roles in organizing the event.

The celebrities will be playing to raise funds for relief efforts during the current global pandemic crisis. PokerStars will donate $1 million for the prize pool, and the top finishers will direct portions corresponding to their finish to a charity of their choice.

Half of the prize pool will automatically go to CARE International, while the other half, including donations from fans, will be distributed via grants to charities and will be administered by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a Charity Navigator Four-Star Charity that meets all 20 BBB Charity Standards.

What’s more, players and fans will have a chance to get in on the action as for each celebrity that plays, PokerStars will invite one randomly-selected fan to join the tournament in a separate field. The two fields – celebrities and players – will then play down to their respective final tables and combine for the ultimate showdown. Celebrities who get knocked out early will be added into a side event where the winner will direct 10% of the total to charity.

James Hartigan and Lex Veldhuis will host the stream, which will see the celebrities show their faces via Zoom. Viewers will not only have the chance to watch all the action, but they can also help support the cause via a “Donate” button on each platform.

The online charity event was the brainchild of Azaria and Bellin, who was recently a guest on the PokerNews Podcast. The pair basically wanted to expand their home game to help during the current crisis.

Other celebrities joining the festivities include Brian Koppelman, Eric Bogosian, Jason Alexander, Brad Garrett, Michael Ian Black, Kevin Pollak, Max Kruse, and Tony Yazbeck.

A Double; A Triple and a Bustout

Level 5 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Sam "SamSquid" Grafton took all but a few chips off Sam "Str8$$$Homey" Greenwood, who then replied in chat "sorry Sam, no bounty."

On the same table, "silentm0de" three-bet jammed {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and Andras "probirs" Nemeth called with the {q-Spades}{3-Spades} to double up the Moldovan on a {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{a-Clubs} board.

Greenwood was then all-in and tripled up as Ilya "Leqenden" Anatsky isolated the three-way pot versus Nemeth by betting the {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades} turn and jamming the {10-Diamonds} river. Nemeth folded and Greenwood's {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} were good against {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} to triple.

Anatsky then knocked out "silentm0de" in a three-bet pot in which the latter flopped top pair with {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} on the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Hearts} and ran smack dab into the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} of Anatsky.

SCOOP 2020: Adam Owen on Outlasting ‘All-Time End Boss’ ‘veeea’ Heads-Up To Win SCOOP-09-M

Level 6 : 2,250/4,500, 550 ante
Adam Owen
Adam Owen

It was Sunday, Day 2 of the 2020 Spring Championship of Online Poker Event 09-M, a $55 buy-in no-limit hold’em affair that had attracted no less than 7,898 total entries.

Adam “adamyid” Owen had survived the first day well enough to carry a decent stack into the final day. But a tough seat draw with Francisco “Tomatee” Benitez having position on him forced Owen to take the cautious route as he continued to navigate his way through the event.

“He was on my direct left, so I really couldn’t play many hands,” Owen explains. “I felt quite restricted, but maybe that helped me in that I didn’t quite get to go as hard as I usually might have done in that kind of tournament.”

Owen’s patience was rewarded as he made it to the last couple of tables, and even got to see Benitez fall in 22nd place. “With two or three tables left there were lots of really tough names,” says Owen. “I was happy to see some of those bust….”

“But having ‘veeea’ on the final table… he is one of the all-time end bosses.”

SCOOP 2020: Matthew “MUSTAFABET” Ashton Talks Limit Hold ‘em After Winning Event 19-H

Level 9 : 3,500/7,000, 875 ante
Matthew Ashton
Matthew Ashton

Matthew “MUSTAFABET” Ashton is one of the most accomplished poker pros in the UK. He has amassed millions in tournament winnings, including multiple COOPs and a WSOP Player’s Champion bracelet.

Not bad for a player who prefers cash games.

“I don’t play many tournaments, but the SCOOP’s have always been a nice change of pace from cash games and it’s fun competing in them each year,” says Ashton.

Indeed, Ashton is no stranger to SCOOP titles. He won his first back in 2016. Last year he claimed a double, taking down the #20-H Limit Stud game for $132k, along with the #50-H Razz tournament for a further $40k.

Now Ashton has earned his first title of SCOOP 2020, taking down the #90-H $1,050 FLHE for $24,729.

Ruijs Rises On the Leaderboard

Level 9 : 3,500/7,000, 875 ante

"DaryaSt" was eliminated in a three-way all-in with {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} against the {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} of Joris “BillLewinsky” Ruijs and the {a-Hearts}{j-Spades} of Pieter "XMorphineX" Aerts as the board came {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

Ruijs doubled through Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson after when he flopped middle set in a three-way pot on a {k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} board. The chips went in only after the river with betting action prior to that and Ruijs tabled {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} to best the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} of Mattsson.

Ruijs then four-bet against a raise by Paul "topdoll287" Newey and a three-bet of "bustoville". Newey jammed and "bustoville" folded, Ruijs called the 298,705 after he had invested 107,100 already.

Joris “BillLewinsky” Ruijs: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

Board: {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

A flopped gutshot turned the superior two pair for Ruijs and he boosted his stack significantly.

Holz Among Latest Casualties

Level 14 : 7,000/14,000, 1,750 ante

Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz three-bet preflop to 87,000 and Pascal "Pass_72" Lefrancois called after he had opened to 28,200. On the {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, Lefrancois check-called a bet of 62,775 and check-called the shove of Holz on the {3-Diamonds} turn for 311,399.

Holz had been ahead preflop with {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} but Lefrancois had turned two pair with {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, the Canadian even rivered a full house with the {3-Spades} as final card.

Lefrancois then doubled Niklas "Lena900" Astedt with {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} versus {6-Spades}{6-Clubs} as the {k-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} board gave Astedt a set of sixes.

Teun "tinnoemulder" Mulder knocked out Luan "Pseudo Fruto" Felipe when he called the check-shove of the Brazilian on the {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} flop with {k-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Felipe turned over {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for top pair but saw the board complete with the {10-Hearts} turn and {10-Spades} river.

Last but not least, "Lassiole" came up short in the following three-way all-in with {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} against the {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} of Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi and the {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} of Andras "probirs" Nemeth.

Quads for Grafton; Double for "jknack10"

Level 16 : 10,000/20,000, 2,500 ante

"KissMyAcePlz" raised, Luuk "pokerkluka" Gieles then jammed for around 25 big blinds and Sam "SamSquid" Grafton reshoved from one seat over to take a shot at the big bounty on Gieles' head. The isolation was successful and Grafton needed help in showdown.

Luuk "pokerkluka" Gieles: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Sam "SamSquid" Grafton: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} board gave Grafton quads to bust Gieles.

Right after another player was at risk at the same table in "jknack10" and he had the best of it with {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} against the {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} of Juan "Malaka$tyle" Pardo. A tiny sweat appeared until the {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{k-Hearts} turn but the {7-Diamonds} river changed nothing whatsoever.
