Brazil's "xrenanx182" had $391,389 reasons to celebrate on March 25 after coming out on top in the $1,050 SCOOP Main Event. The tournament drew a 2,673-strong crowd, who created a $2,673,000 prize pool, far larger than the advertised $2 million guarantee.
Each of the nine finalists locked in a $26,092 score, but each had their eye on the top prize worth just shy of $400,000.
The elimination of the talented Mathew "Matfrankland" Frankland in seventh place, worth $51,349, left the waters ever-so-slightly less shark-infested. Frankland's fellow Brit, "InduceMe," crashed out in sixth for $72,036, the last prize not to weigh in at six figures.
Eventually, "xrenanx182" found themselves heads-up against "Everburn11" of Malta in what was essentially a $113,000 battle. A lack of a deal meant Everburn11" had to make do with the $278,994 second-place prize, while "xrenanx182" walked away with the title and a $391,389 top prize.
