The 2019 Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series Event #1: $350 DeepStack NLH attracted 767 entries over three starting flights, and on Monday the final six returned to play down to a winner.

Each was guaranteed $8,383 out of the $230,100 prize pool, but each had high hopes of taking home the $41,412 first-place prize. Guillermo Reyes began the day as a massive chip leader, and despite seeing the lead wrested from him several times, he managed to close it out to capture a career-best $41,412 payday.

The 51-year-old magician and trapeze artist, who has worked for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, had a prior best score of $36,000 for finishing runner up in another $300 buy-in event, the 2013 WPT Regional Florida Summer Slam at Seminole Coconut Creek.

Final Table Action

The first final table casualty was Nir Peleg, who jammed with king-jack and was up against Guillermo Reyes’ ace-seven. Peleg flopped top pair to take the lead but Reyes caught runner-runner to make a straight.

From there, Eitan Aloush grew short and eventually jammed holding king-ten. Aleksandr Shevelev woke up with ace-queen and Aloush failed to get there to fall in fifth place. Not long after, Nicolas Alberto Kohan followed him out the door in fourth after flopping top pair and calling off on the river only to see Shevelev roll over a turned heart flush.

Three-handed play lasted for more than 4.5 hours with the triumvirate taking turns with the chip lead. Eventually, Zachary Hammons four-bet all in with ace-eight and got snap-called by Shevelev, who had three-bet with queens. Hammons got lucky to flop an ace and Shevelev would bow out in third place three hands later.

Heads-up play began with Hammons holding a slight chip lead over Reyes, but the latter doubled big getting lucky with ace-jack against ace-king all in preflop. Not long after it ended when Hammons flopped second pair and Reyes top pair.

PokerNews coverage of the 2019 Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series will continue Tuesday with updates from the Day 1b of the $560 buy-in The Deeper Stack.

In what would be the final hand of the tournament, Guillermo Reyes limped the button and Zachary Hammons checked his option from the big to see a {j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop.

Hammons checked, Reyes bet 800,000, and Hammons check-raised all in for around 2.6 million. Reyes quickly called.

Reyes: {k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Hammons: {j-Spades}{3-Hearts}

Both players had flopped a pair but Hammons was second best. Neither the {6-Clubs} turn nor {10-Hearts} river saved him and he had to settle for second place.

Aleksandr Shevelev - 3rd Place

After more than 4.5 hours of three-handed play an elimination occurred.

In the defining hand, Zachary Hammons raised to 300,000 from the button and Guillermo Reyes called from the small blind. Aleksandr Shevelev then three-bet to 1.25 million from the big and Hammons four-bet jammed for 5.875 million. Reyes folded and Shevelev snap-called.

Shevelev: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Hammons: {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Hammons was in trouble but got lucky to take the lead when the {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop paired his ace. Neither the {6-Spades} turn nor {6-Hearts} river helped Shevelev and he was left with 650,000 after hand.

Three hands later, Shevelev moved all in from the small blind for 300,000 and Hammons called from the big.

Shevelev: {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Hammons: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and that was all she wrote for Shevelev.

Nicolas Alberto Kohan - 4th Place

Nicolas Alberto Kohan limped the small blind and called when Aleksandr Shevelev put in a raise from the big.

The former then check-called bets on both the {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop and {6-Hearts} turn before checking for the third time on the {j-Clubs} river.

Shevelev moved all in and Kohan went into the tank debating what to do with his remaining 2 million. Eventually, he called and discovered the bad news as Shevelev rolled over the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a turned flush.

Kohan rapped the table, showed his {a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and then shook hands with the final three players before heading to the payout desk in fourth place.
