Day 2 Completed

Andy Spears Still On Top, Leads Final Nine

The second day of the 2013 Seneca Niagara Fall Poker Classic has officially come to a close. The returning 46 players were joined by 10 new entrants at the beginning to the day to comprise the Day 2 field. By day's end, the final table of nine was set with Andy Spears, who came into the day in the top chip position, still leading the field.

Spears dominated Day 1 play and held a spot among the leaders as early as the second level of play. He came into Day 2 with the same aggressive style that earned him his mammoth stack on the first day and never relented his spot at the top of the chip counts.

Spears found an additional surge late in the day when he took a flop with eventual 14th-place finisher Erik Lemarquand. At the 4,000/8,000/1,000 level, the two saw {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} hit the felt. Lemarquand checked, and Spears fired out 31,000. Lemarquand cut out a check-raise to 68,000, and Spears called. The turn was the {A-Clubs}, and Lemarquand checked once again. Spears bet 46,000, and Lemarquand announced that he was all in over the top. Spears snapped him off, and the hands were tabled.

Spears: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Lemarquand: {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Spears found himself in a dominating position and needed to fade just an ace heading to the river to send Lemarquand home. He did exactly that when the {7-Diamonds} hit the felt, and he was able to rake in a massive pot. Spears bagged up 1.549 million in chips to end the night, which is over 1 million more than second place.

Also returning to the felt in a back-to-back final table appearance is Budway Salhab. Salhab, who just days ago scored a runner-up finish in the $500 No-Limit Hold'em Reentry event, will bring a stack of 440,000 to the final table. Finally, two-time World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner Travell Thomas will also appear at the final table with 339,000 in chips.

Day 2's play saw the money bubble burst, guaranteeing the top 18 players a cash. Among those to cash were Matt Cafarella, Scott Aitchison, Mike O'Halloran ($3,106), Long Nguyen, Lemarquand, Martin Feijo ($3,688), Kai Koppe, Tom Clayton, and Hoss Colao ($4,659).

Hoss Colao Eliminated in 10th Place ($4,659)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Hoss Colao
Hoss Colao

Hoss Colao played his short stack well all evening, but he fell just short of the official final table. Colao committed his last 120,000 preflop with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Alex Barker called with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. The {10-Spades}{J-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} board have Barker the nut straight, leaving Colao one spot shy of reaching the Fall Poker Classic Main Event finale. Barker, meanwhile, has reached the final of this tournament for the second straight year and will be looking to one-up his performance from a year ago.

We'll have a full Day 2 recap for you shortly. Thanks for tuning in — see you tomorrow at noon for the final table!

Mueller Doubles Through Hall

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

After a series of raises before the flop, Johannes Mueller found himself all in and at risk for his last 193,000. The cards were turned on their back to show that Mueller was racing with his {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} against Ryan Hall's {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Mueller's jacks retained the lead. The {Q-Clubs} came on the turn and the {7-Spades} finished off the board, ensuring that Mueller would double up and not become the official final table bubble boy. Mueller now has 404,000 in chips.

Tom Clayton Eliminated in 11th Place ($4,659)

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Tom Clayton -- 11th place
Tom Clayton -- 11th place

More chips were just handed over to Andy Spears. After Brian McCormick limped from under the gun, Tom Clayton raised to 29,000 from the button. Andy Spears then three-bet to 74,000 from the small blind. McCormick folded and Clayton called to see a {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop. Spears led out for 53,000, Clayton moved all in for more than 200,000, and Spears called.

Clayton: {A-Spades}{J-Spades}
Spears: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

Once again Spears got his chips in as a huge favorite, and once again he held up. The {9-Hearts} turn and {3-Spades} river sealed Clayton's fate as the 11th-place finisher in this event.

The final 10 players are making their way to the unofficial final table. We'll have a seat draw for you shortly.

Kai Koppe - 12th Place

Kai Koppe moved all in for 130,000 from the button with {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}, and Budway Salhab called from the big blind with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. The {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} flop gave Koppe some added hope, but he came up empty on the {5-Hearts} turn and {9-Spades} river. Salhab increased his stack to around 310,000.
