The fourth starting flight of the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge Event 5: $50 No-Limit Hold'em is now in the books.
This evening's flight was the busiest of the bunch so far drawing 204 entries.
A total of 24 survived and they will join the 43 survivors from the first three Day 1 flights in coming back to play down to a winner Thursday at 12 p.m. local time.
Plus, there are two more Day 1 flights set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time.
Shayne Shackelford absolutely dominated the field tonight, jumping into the chip lead after the mid-point in the flight by flopping a set of jacks to crack Randy Lingenfelter's aces, then crushing the later levels on the way to building an incredible 520,000-chip stack.
Putting things in perspective, he raked in an amazing 25 per cent of the chips in play tonight and no other player from any other flight has bagged more than 185,000 thus far.
Things may change in the two flights tomorrow, but at this point it's safe to say Shackelford is running away with this thing.
The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be back for Day 1e tomorrow at 11 a.m. local time to keep you up to date on all the action from beginning to end.
The biggest hand of the day so far just vaulted Shayne Shackelford into the chip lead.
It started with a Nick Walker open and a Shackelford flat call. Randy Lingenfelter then three-bet and after Walker walked away, Shackelford shoved.
Lingenfelter looked down at two aces and made the call way ahead of Shackelford's . However, the board took care of that, handing Shackelford the massive pot with a set.
Day 1d of Event #5, a $25,000 Guaranteed No-Limit Hold'em tournament with a $50 buy-in, will begin at 7 p.m. this evening
This is fourth of six starting flights that will continue to play out over the next two days. The first wrapped up just after 4 p.m. Monday with 113 total entries and just 13 survivors.
The second finished just after midnight this morning, drawing a total of 136 entries with 17 making it through to Thursday's second and final day. And finally, the third was done around 5 p.m. today drawing 108 entries with 13 survivors.
Players get 10,000 in tournament chips and will play 15 20-minute levels or until just 12 percent of the total entries remain.
Unlimited re-entries are permitted up until the start of the 13th level and players can jump in as many starting flights as they like, carrying the biggest stack forward to the final day.
The affordable buy-in and re-entry format is designed to attract both veteran rounders and recreational players and should be a fun ride throughout as players try to build a contending stack.
The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in the building and will endeavor to keep you abreast of all the action throughout.
