Machado Gets Short, Busts Shortly After
Gilmar Machado raised to 20,000 from under the gun and Wilson Caldeira called from the big blind. The flop came 6♣5♠2♥ and Caldeira led out with a bet of 20,000 which Machado called.
The turn was the 3♦ and both players quickly checked to the 4♣ on the river. Caldeira shipped all in for 63,000 with a straight on the board and Machado called hoping to chop. Caldeira turned over 8♠7♠ for the mega straight and Machado was forced to pass over a double up.
Two hands later, Joao Leao raised from the cutoff and Machado stuck in his last 25,000 chips in the small blind. Leao called and the cards were on their backs.
Gilmar Machado: A♣7♥
Joao Leao: A♥9♣
The board ran out A♦K♠Q♠9♦J♣ to give Leao two pair and eliminate Machado on the money bubble. The remaining eight players will now bag up their chips and return on Day 2 where they will be in the money.
