It was an extravagant grand opening for the SiGMA Poker Tour Brazil last night which saw a total of 61 entries recorded for the first of five flights in the $770 Main Event. The doors opened to the Monte Carlo Poker Club and fun was had by all while the cards were pitched on the felt over the course of 10 hours. Just seven players managed to scathe their way to the end and bag chips to advance to Day 2 on Sunday.
Today is time for the second flight, Day 1b, of the Main Event that is set to get underway at 2 p.m. local time. The poker club is expected to get busier as the weekend nears which means the action will start to intensify. It was Christian Rico who bagged the largest stack last night with a whopping 483,000 chips, from a starting stack of just 30,000.
A couple of ladies joined him near the top of the leaderboard, including SiGMA Poker Tour ambassador Drea Karlsen from Norway. The poker pro was at or near the top of the chip counts for much of the night in an impressive showing at the first stop on the SiGMA Poker Tour. Karlsen went on to finish the night with 335,000 along with Samara Alexandre who also bagged an impressive 302,000 chips.
Heading into Day 1b, other SiGMA Poker Tour ambassadors John Arne Riise and Lukas Robinson will hope to turn their fortunes around with a deep run in hopes of reaching the money on Day 2. The action is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. and there is likely to be no lack of entertainment to get the players ready for the festivities. A starting stack of 30,000 chips will be given to each player with the blinds starting at 100/200 and increasing every 30 minutes.
There will be a 15-minute break after every four levels with an extended break slotted in at some point for a bite to eat. Late registration will remain open until the end of level 10 and each player will have the opportunity of two reentries per flight. They will once again be playing down to 15% of the unique players recorded for this flight.
To note, there will also be a turbo flight running this evening at 8 p.m. local time where the blinds will be 20-minute levels. The PokerNews live reporting team will be on site to cover all of the action from Day 1b which will be running throughout the day so stay tuned for all of the updates.
