Ollewagen Among the Bigger Stacks

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The flop showed JJ3 and the big blind check-called a bet worth 3,700 by Kade Ollewagen, who had just arrived at the table a few minutes ago. That brought them to the 5 turn on which the action checked to Ollewagen again. He now made it 5,700 to go and that was enough to win the pot without any further resistance.

Marais Takes From Scheepers

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Gideon Scheepers raised to 3,200 and once Jacques Marais called in the small blind, he jokingly invited Theuns Prinsloo in the big blind to call as well as he'd be "certain to win". Prinsloo made the call and the blinds checked the AA9 flop. Scheepers continued for 5,000 and Marais came along, Prinsloo folded.

Both then checked the 9 turn and 10 river. "Well, my pair is kinda counterfitted," Scheepers sighed as he flashed the 55. Marais had the A5 and won the pot.

"Thank god the five didn't come or I would lose all my chips," Scheepers added.

Strommes Takes From Dayani

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Four ways to the Q109 flop, Sven Strommes and Prebbre Reddy checked out of the blinds. Danny Dayani bet 3,000 for the button to fold, Strommes to call and Reddy to fold.

They checked the A turn and Strommes then bet the A river for 10,000. Dayani called but mucked when he was shown the Q8 by Strommes.

Manganas Gets Value From Nortje

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Mystery Bounty Event winner Marko Nortje entered a few levels ago and spun up his stack pretty quickly.

In a battle of the blinds with Aleko Manganas, he just now called bets worth 5,500 on the J1062 turn and 10,000 on the 7 river. Manganas tabled the AJ for top pair and top kicker to win the pot.

Ah-Nien Rivers Butler to the Rail

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Shannon Elizabeth raised to 3,000 and earned two callers. Richard Butler then jammed for the last 25,000 on the button and the action folded back to Patrice Ah-Nien. He reluctantly called and the cards were flipped over.

Richard Butler: 77 All in
Patrice Ah-Nien: A7

The K96 flop and J turn provided two spades, but instead it was the A river that sent Butler to the rail.

Tanith Rothman

Just before the blinds moved up, Rajeev Poonhath raised to 2,500 from under the gun. Tanith Rothman jammed for 10,600 in the cutoff and Thomas Bedford in the big blind moved all-in to force out Poonhath.

Pillay Enters and Scores a Knockout

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

The Day 1a field has reached three digits and one of the latest players to jump in was Alvin Pillay. Among the first few hands he was involved in, Pillay knocked out a short stack who defended the big blind and flopped second pair with J6 on QJ7.

Pillay was miles ahead with the AA and had little to fear on the 10 turn as well as 7 river runout.

Kumar Triples Against Jardine and Ah-Nien

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Jaryd Jardine raised to 4,000 and earned four callers to a flop of 622. The action continued with a bet worth 10,000 by Jardine and Anand Kumar then jammed for 23,500. Shannon Elizabeth reluctantly folded while Patrice Ah-Nien called, as did Jardine after using one time bank.

Both active players checked down the 8 turn and K river.

Ah-Nien flashed his J5 for a flush to the jack but Kumar had that beat with the A10. Jardine sighed deeply with a "how do you both get there" before sending his cards into the muck.
