On the tail end of a K♦10♠2♥3♥J♥ river, Sugen Singh bet 1,100 into a pot of around 5,000. His opponent folded and Singh flashed his Q♥Q♣ for a pair of queens, as well as straight and flush blockers.
Darryl Shaff had already more than doubled his stack and was involved in a ton of the hands on his table. Leon Potgieter then tangled with early chip leader David Ng and check-raised a bet on the J♣7♦2♠6♦ turn to 6,000, Ng called. On the 5♠ river, Potgieter bet 6,000 and Ng reluctantly folded.
Kushil Shah limp-called a raise to 2,000 by Nick Sissou and then led the 10♦5♥2♠ flop for 3,000, which Sissou called. Shah bet another 6,000 on the 7♦ turn to earn a call and fired a big bet of 15,000 on the 7♠ river.
Sissou folded and was shown the 5♠.
Down to around 20,000 - 50 big blinds at this stage - he then opted to open shove from middle position in the next hand. Jacobus de Nysschen rejammed with the biggest stack to force out everybody else.
Nick Sissou: 10♣10♥
Jacobus de Nysschen: J♣J♠
The board ran out A♦A♣3♠4♣K♦ and Sissou busted, re-entered and drew the very same seat.
In the last hand before the break, there was a big clash over on table five. "Always with the nuts, eh?" another player joked and Okkie Fourie sighed "well, he is my friend" after he had all but felted Sugen Singh.
On a board of Q♦8♣3♥3♣10♥, the K♣Q♥ of Singh had made two pair but Fourie had the best of it with Q♠Q♣ for queens full. Singh remained at the tables somewhat in shock and typed messages on his phone while all other players headed into the break.
Upon completion of level three, the first scheduled 15-minute break has kicked off. So far, a field of 45 entries has emerged and 36 players remain in contention.
With four active players and Sugen Singh all-in out of the big blind without having looked at his cards, the flop showed 5♥5♦5♣. The button bet 3,000 and received two callers including Okkie Fourie, who had taken all but the last few chips of Singh before the break.
On the J♥ turn, it checked to Fourie and his bet of 6,000 isolated.
Sugen Singh: 9♠4♣
Okkie Fourie: Q♠J♦
Singh was drawing dead ahead of the 7♠ river to hit the rail.
Alvin Pillay bet the K♦K♣J♣ flop for 5,000 and then called all-in when Nick Sissou raised to 30,000 from two seats over.
Alvin Pillay: A♣8♣
Nick Sissou: A♠K♥
Both had tangled several times in the first three levels and Pillay apologised in advance for hitting a club. The club came but only after the 3♠ turn and 3♣ river as Sissou improved to a full house.
