Super High Roller Bowl Reaches Money Bubble on Day 3

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Jake Schindler
Jake Schindler

After a little more than 17 levels of play, the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl at ARIA has reached the money bubble at the close of Day 3. The next player eliminated will receive nothing, and everyone after that will be guaranteed to at least double their investment.

The strong showing by amateurs through the first two days of the tournament did not carry over, as it's a pro-heavy group that will make up the unofficial final table when play resumes for Day 4.

Jake Schindler is tops among the remaining eight with 4,080,000. He's followed by Christoph Vogelsang (2,650,000), Byron Kaverman (2,200,000), Stefan Schillhabel (1,890,000), Leon Tsoukernik (1,780,000), Pratyush Buddiga (1,780,000), Justin Bonomo (1,735,000) and Jason Koon (685,000).

Tsoukernik is the only remaining amateur in contention, though he's showed he can compete before by winning the EPT Prague $50K High Roller in December.

Schindler has essentially made a living in ARIA high roller events, with 12 six-figure cashes to his credit in the venue. The biggest of those was a share of a three-way chop in 2016 for over $835,000 in a $100K event. He went on a late heater to end the night on top of this one.

First, Schindler doubled through Dan Shak at 8,000/16,000/16,000. Shak raised to 50,000 in the small blind, Schindler repopped to 150,000, and Shak immediately jammed for 1.2 million. Schindler used a time extension but ultimately decided he couldn't let two queens go, and he was happy to see he had Shak's jacks crushed. The board ran clean to push Schindler past 2.4 million.

Schindler then won two flips. First, he held with threes against the ace-jack of Bill Klein, who jammed about 25 big blinds preflop. Then, he finished off Shak with ace-king against jacks when a king hit the river, leaving Shak devastated and putting a close to the day with eight players left instead of the planned nine.

That was because defending champ Rainer Kempe finally went bust at the same time at the outer table after mounting a truly staggering comeback. Knocked down to about one blind, he stormed back to 500,000 after a series of doubles. However, he ran nines into the pocket tens of fellow German Schillhabel to end his repeat bid.

Other players eliminated on Day 3 included Jason Mercier, Daniel Negreanu and 2015 Super High Roller Bowl champ Brian Rast.

The remaining runners will return with about one hour left at 10,000/20,000/20,000 — the big blind pays the full ante in this structure. They'll have $6 million up top to fight for, but nobody will get their hands on it on Wednesday, as the plan is to play down to three competitors. Updates will be available throughout the day on PokerNews, with a live stream proved by PokerGo.

Dan Shak Eliminated by Jake Schindler

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Dan Shak
Dan Shak

Dan Shak got his 671,000 chip stack in before the flop holding {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} against chip leader Jake Schindler with {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}.

The {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop was a safe one for Shak, and he maintained his lead on the {2-Spades} turn, but the river brought the {K-Diamonds} to give Schindler a pair of kings and end Shak's run in the 2017 Super High Roller Bowl.

Defending Champ Kempe Crippled

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Rainer Kempe
Rainer Kempe

Stefan Schillhabel opened for 38,000 on the button. Leon Tsoukernik announced a reraise to 137,000, and Rainer Kempe then moved all in from the big blind for 671,000. Schillhabel used a time extension and then announced he was all in for what looked like a little under 700,000. Tsoukernik quickly folded.

Schillhabel: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Kempe: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Kempe needed help but found the opposite on the {3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop. He would need improvement on the turn to have any hope, but a {6-Hearts} ended things early. Stacks were counted down and Kempe had some crumbs left. He more than doubled it up but remains very short.

Justin Bonomo Eliminates Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

From the hi-jack, Jason Mercier moved all in for 188,000 and Justin Bonomo called from the small blind.

Mercier: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Bonomo: {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

Mercier had the lead, but Bonomo pulled ahead when the flop fell {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. The {5-Spades} on the turn was no help to Mercier, and the {J-Spades} river sealed the deal.

Bill Klein moved to the feature table to occupy Mercier's former seat.

David Einhorn Eliminated by Dan Shak

Level 16 : 7,000/14,000, 14,000 ante
David Einhorn
David Einhorn

Dan Shak opened to 40,000 and David Einhorn called from the small blind as the flop fell {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}.

Einhorn checked and Shak continued for 60,000 before Einhorn check-raised to 180,000. With the action back on Shak, he moved all in for 1.4 million and Einhorn paused for a few moments before calling all in for his last 785,000.

Einhorn: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Shak: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

Shak needed a lot of help to take the lead, but the {8-Spades} on the turn was just what he needed, putting him far ahead with aces up. The {3-Clubs} fell on the river, securing the pot for Shak and eliminating Einhorn.

Kaverman Picks Off Aldemir to Bust Him

Level 16 : 7,000/14,000, 14,000 ante
Koray Aldemir
Koray Aldemir

Koray Aldemir check-called out of the big blind when Byron Kaverman bet 57,000 on a board of {k-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} from the cutoff. On the {8-Clubs} river, Aldemir checked a final time. Kaverman waited almost his whole 30 seconds before betting 110,000. Aldemir tanked long enough to use a time extension and then announced all in. Kaverman immediately asked for a count, which yielded 404,000. He thought enough to use his own extension and then dropped in some chips to call.

Aldemir simply nodded in resignation and showed {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for flopped two pair that had been counterfeited. Kaverman turned over {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

After thinking for a few moments, Schindler called and tabled {A-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for aces up, which dominated Negreanu's {K-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

The {6-Spades} fell on the river, and Negreanu was eliminated.

Justin Bonomo Leads Final 19 Players in $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl!

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Welcome back to the ARIA Resort & Casino for Day 3 of the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl!

Over two days of intense poker action, the starting 56-player field has now been whittled down to just 19 players all fighting it out to reach the final table and money-paying final seven players. Those seven players will all take home a piece of the $16,800,000 prize pool, but it will be the $6,000,000 first prize that everyone will be eyeing. However, before players can breath easy knowing they have padded their bankroll with potential millions, they'll have to survive a Day 3 that is expected to be filled with hot and heavy poker action.

Justin Bonomo ascended up the leaderboard on Monday winning numerous sizeable pots while eliminating players here and there. First he dispatched of Antonio Esfandiari and then Nick Petrangelo before a table move saw him capture a big pot off reigning champion Rainer Kempe when Bonomo flopped trip sevens and managed to find value through a big river bet from Kempe. Bonomo also had position on Daniel Negreanu and applied countless aggression in a plethora of hands until he finished the day as the chip leader with 2,628,000 in chips.

The only other player with over two million in chips is Day 1 chip leader Byron Kaverman who may have had a quiet day in the blog, but continually accumulated chips to continue his rise up the leaderboard. However the story entering today is the fate of the so-called amateurs in the Super High Roller Bowl. All five amateurs remaining bagged top ten chip stacks with Dan Shak (1,482,000), Bill Klein (1,466,000), Leon Tsoukernik (1,335,000), Cary Katz (701,000), and David Einhorn (685,000) all fairing better then many might have expected. On the other end of the leaderboard, Negreanu (225,000), Jason Mercier (243,000), and Zach Hyman (267,000) all sit below starting stack and will be hoping that a rush of cards early can set them on a path to climbing back up the leaderboard.

The plan for today will be to play down to the final table of nine, or a full seven levels, whichever happens first. The cards are expected to be in the air at 1:00 p.m. (PST) with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team providing continuous live updates of all the Super High Roller Bowl action live from the ARIA Resort & Casino. Stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com as we write the path of the next Super High Roller Bowl Champion, and for those interested in live streaming of the final few days of the Super High Roller Bowl, then make sure to check out Poker Central's PokerGO!
