Chip Counts
Level: 16
Blinds: 4,000/8,000
Ante: 8,000
The remaining players are taking their final 15-minute break of the evening.
There are approximately 180 players remaining, with 134 advancing to Day 2.
Play resumes in Level 16 with blinds of 4,000/8,000.
John Ciccarelli opened to 12,000 in the cutoff before Shawn Daniels three-bet to 40,000 from the small blind, and Ciccarelli called.
Daniels led for 16,000 on the A♥A♣Q♦ flop and Ciccarelli flatted.
The two saw the 3♣ turn as Daniels fired another barrel of 32,000, and Ciccarelli called once again.
On the A♦ river, Daniels led a final time for 55,000 before Ciccarelli jammed as the covering stack for 158,000 effective, and Daniels let it go after some deliberation as Ciccarelli collected the pot without showdown.
Ryan Stiner raised to 20,000 with 32,000 behind from early position. It folded to the big blind who shrugged as he tossed in a collection of pink T-25,000 chips to ask for the rest, and Stiner called off his 52,000 total stack.
Ryan Stiner: Q♦Q♣
Big Blind: A♦5♥
Stiner was in good shape to double until the A♠5♦3♦ flop gave his opponent two pair. When the K♦ landed on the turn, Stiner tossed his cards face down in front of him and stood up from his seat, with even his diamond redraw covered.
However, the miracle Q♥ landed on the river to give Stiner a set of queens, and he retook his seat and flipped his cards back over as the table laughed at the humorous series of events.
"If I lost that one..." Stiner explained, "I would have just quit poker."
Stiner, who won this event in 2022 and 2023 with an 11th place finish last year, will not be quitting poker (yet).
A player opened from under the gun and Mark Babekov flatted in the small blind.
On the Q♠10♠9♦ flop, Babekov checked to his opponent who bet 14,000. Babekov check-raised to 35,000 before his opponent jammed as the covering stack, and Babekov snapped off his 233,000 stack.
Mark Babekov: K♥J♣
Under the Gun: 10♥10♦
Babekov flopped the nut straight against the middle set of his opponent. Babekov needed to fade the board pair, which he did on the A♦2♠ runout to scoop a massive one.
Level: 15
Blinds: 3,000/6,000
Ante: 6,000
A player open-jammed for 93,000 from middle position before Casey Sandretto called off his 85,000 stack from the hijack.
Casey Sandretto: 10♥10♦
Middle Position: A♦K♠
It was a coinflio scenario as the Q♥8♥2♠ flop kept Sandretto in the lead. Nothing changed on the 7♠9♦ runout, and doubling chips were sent to Sandretto.
His opponent was left with 8,000 chips and was eliminated the next hand.
A player opened to 10,000 under the gun and was immediately three-bet to 30,000 on their direct left. On the button, Danette Smith jammed for her remaining 84,000 stack. The under the gun player rejammed, and the third opponent called off their roughly 175,000 stack.
Danette Smith: 9♠9♥
Early Position: A♦K♣
Under the Gun: A♣K♦
Smith was in good shape with both of her opponents holding the same hand. She faded an ace or king on the 7♦3♣2♥2♠5♣ runout, and she secured the full triple, while the side pot was chopped.
