Jack Peterson Ends a Thunderous Day 1f as Chip Leader in the $2,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jack Peterson
Jack Peterson

The final flight of the Main Event has reached its end and the players heading to Day 2 all have their chips in bags. A total of 123 players bought into this final flight, and 58 of them survived until the end of level nine.

When everything was counted, Jack Peterson was atop the field with an impressive 358,000 chips. Peterson will start Day 2 with a maneuverable stack of 129 big blinds and plenty of confidence to put it to use. He catapulted to the top of the leaderboard near the end of the day and never looked back. In his flight, he had nearly 100,000 chips more than second place.

Speaking of second place, the one and only Doug Polk sits in second, bagging 263,000 chips himself. One of Polk's first hands of the day was when he four-bet with ace-king and was called by the ace-three suited of an aggressive player. His opponent hit a devastating three on the flop, but Polk found a jack on the river to make broadway.

He wasn't the only part-owner of The Lodge Card Club to find a bag for Day 2. Andew Neeme bagged up 202,000, good for just over 100 big blinds heading to tomorrow. Neeme flopped a flush early in the day in a multi-way pot and managed to get two streets of value from the initial raiser. That pot brought him to nearly 100,000 chips and he never looked back from there.

Also bagging was Nakia Strazzera. Strazzera wasn't planning on playing the main, she had plans of heading home for the evening. A last-minute change of plans looks to be a great one as she bagged 170,000 chips and will carry a healthy stack into tomorrow's festivities.

When all was said and done, 617 total players bought into the Main Event. For those of you curious, that means there was an overlay of $334,100. Those who have made Day 2 are fighting for a piece of that $2,000,000 guaranteed prize pool which means some great value on their $3,000 buy-in.

The 58 advancing players from this final flight will join players from all other Day 1 flights for a total of 259 players moving on to Day 2. Tomorrow's restart will get going at 2 p.m., blinds will be 60-minutes. Players will play 10 levels tomorrow.

Tomorrow stands to be an exciting Day 2 that will take us that much closer to crowning a winner of this prestigious event. Join us back here at PokerNews to follow all the action.

Swift Makes His Opponent Slow

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jon Swift
Jon Swift

Action picked up on the flop with two players looking at a board of {4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

Carlos Caldas checked to Jon Swift who bet 8,000 into a pot of about 13,000. Caldas decided to put in the check-raise to 20,000. Swift called fairly quickly.

The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and Caldas slowed down his aggression with a check. Swift took that as a green light to fire away and went all in for the 38,000 effective that sat in Caldas's stack.

Caldas thought for about three minutes before another player called the clock. 30 seconds to act, he used almost all of it, but eventually mucked his cards just before the timer hit zero.

The Lodge Card Club

The last level of play has seen lots of action; big pots, flopped sets, and chips flying left and right.

With 30 minutes left to play, who will strike lightning inside the club and end up as today's chip leader?

Kogel Shows Brabham that his Bullets are Blanks

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Nathan Kogel
Nathan Kogel

One player had raised from middle position to 4,000 when Nathanael Kogel flatted from the small blind.

Thomas Brabham got involved from the big blind when he three-bet to 12,400. Only Kogel made the call and the blind-on-blind battle went to a flop.

{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Clubs} hit the board and Kogel checked in flow to Brabham, who continued for 15,000. Kogel called.

The turn was the {8-Clubs}, this time Kogel donk-led for 13,500. Brabham thought long about his options in response to the lead, but he decided to go all in for 72,900 effective. He didn't like it when Kogel snap called.

Kogel turned over the {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for a flopped set and Brabham flipped over his {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} in disgust. The {9-Diamonds} river was no help, Kogel stacked chips and Brabham was left with a short stack.

Gill Hits a Set as Cowboys Continue to Get Out-Flopped

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Charles Gill
Charles Gill

In a blind-versus-blind battle, Charles Gill found himself tangled up with Pedro Rodriguez.

Gill had raised from the small blind before getting three-bet by Rodriguez from the big blind. Gill four-bet all in for 58,000 back at Rodriguez who made the call and had slightly more chips than Gill.

Yet another cooler setup in this flight had Gill with the {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Rodriguez held the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}. The flop eased Gill's troubles, though, when the {3-}{7-}{10-} hit the board. The turn {a-} and river {4-} offered no help to Rodriguez, who was left with only a few big blinds.

Gill makes a push for a big stack as the night gets ready to enter its final level.

Quraishi Finds a Queen

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Nissar Quraishi
Nissar Quraishi

Bill Cox opened on the button for 3,000 before getting three-bet to 15,000 from the small blind by Nissar Quraishi.

Cox decided to go all in right back at Quraishi and sent him deep into the tank. Quraishi looked pained as he counted out the chips that represented more than half of his stack, but in the end he slid them over the line.

Cox showed the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Quraishi frustratingly flipped over {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. His frustration didn't last long, though, as the {q-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} bailed him out with a set.

He still needed to avoid a spade or a king, but the turn and river came the {10-Hearts} and {9-Clubs}, the set held, and Cox was eliminated from the tournament.

Polk Peels Nines and Pips Compton

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Frank Russo limped under the gun for 1,000 before John Compton raised to 3,000 from the cutoff.

Doug Polk looked interested from the button and decided to three-bet to 8,000.

John Compton asked, "how much do you have?" and Doug lifted his hands up. "Not you, I'm not worried about you," said Russo. "I'm looking at him," talking about Compton, who had about 20,000.

"What about this, this could go in?" said Doug, pointing out his over 100,000 chip stack.

"His is going in before yours," rationalized Russo. Ultimately, though, he released his cards and let the other two battle it out.

Compton's chips did indeed go in first, but Doug also called relatively quickly.

Compton exposed {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, but Doug had him beat with his own {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. The board ran out {a-Spades}{5-Spades}{q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Doug made an unneeded set to take down the pot and oust Compton.

Lulov Calls a Massive Four-Bet and Wins

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Brandon Lulov
Brandon Lulov

Chan Pelton opened in middle position and was raised by Brandon Lulov to 8,600. A fairly standard start to the hand was about to get much more interesting.

Pelton decided to go all in for about 90,000, over 10 times the size of Lulov's bet.

Lulov went into the tank. Pelton grew impatient and started to talk to his opponent. "Come on man, I don't have time for this #$@&."

Eventually, Lulov made the call and saw he was in a great spot. Pelton flipped over the {a-}{q-} and Lulov had the {a-}{k-}.

The flop came king high and that was all she wrote for Pelton.

"I have a lot of chips and I can't rebuy," Lulov explained why he didn't make the call quicker. Regardless, he made the right play in the hand and added a healthy pot to his growing stack.

Hays Throws a Haymaker and Gets a Knockout

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Nathan Hays
Nathan Hays

Nathan Hays opened under the gun and found one caller immediately on his left. The action made its way to Jonathan Wang in middle position who liked what he saw and decided to go all in for about 22,000 with blinds at 500-1000.

Hays made the call and the in-the-middle player got out of the way.

Cards on their back revealed that Hays had Wang in a bad spot with Wang's tournament life on the line. Hays had {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} while Wang had the {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

The flop came clean for Hays who took down the sizeable pot and added to his growing chip stack.
