Lawrence Loses Raising War to Wilmes

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Mike Wilmes either had the goods or didn't believe Lawrence.
Mike Wilmes either had the goods or didn't believe Lawrence.

Mike Wilmes defended his big blind from a min-raise by Jim Lawrence, and they took in a flop of {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Lawrence continuation-bet 160,000 after a check, and Wilmes came back with 340,000. Lawrence tanked for a bit, and then he said he was raising.

"Nine hundred," he said, sliding out stacks of 100,000 one at a time.

Wilmes thought briefly before pushing all in for about another 700,000, and Lawrence tanked again before releasing his cards.

Ken Pates Eliminated in 5th Place ($21,624)

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Ken Pates - Fifth Place
Ken Pates - Fifth Place

Ken Pates raised to 170,000 on the button, and Mike Lang defended his big blind. Lang checked to the raiser on the {k-Clubs}{a-Spades}{6-Spades} flop, and Pates fired 225,000. Lang raised it to 500,000, and Pates announced a deep-voiced all in.

Lang tanked for a long few minutes before voicing a call.

Lang: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Pates: {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

Lang was in a great spot, needing to fade only a three, while a pair on the board below kings would chop it for Pates. The {2-Diamonds} and {7-Hearts} kept it clean for Lang, and Pates had to settle for fifth.

Lawrence Fires the Turn

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Jim Lawrence defended his big blind from a button min-raise by Mike Lang, and {3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flopped. Lawrence check-called 100,000 before coming out firing with 250,000 on the {4-Diamonds} turn. Lang quickly folded.

Wilmes Ships Two Bullets to Lawrence

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Mike Wilmes raised to 130,000 on the button, and Jim Lawrence called in the small blind. Wilmes bet 145,000 after Lawrence checked the {8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop, and Lawrence called. Lawrence check-called again on the {6-Clubs}, this time for 225,000. Lawrence checked the {9-Clubs} river, and Wilmes followed suit with a two-handed check.

Lawrence showed {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and Wilmes couldn't beat it.

Behling Doubles Again

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

We didn't see the preflop action, but Harry Behling just doubled through Mike Lang when his {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} held against Lang's {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} despite Lang flopping a flush draw.

Jerome Getz Eliminated in 6th Place ($15,137)

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Jerome Getz - Sixth Place
Jerome Getz - Sixth Place

Jerome Getz got the last of it in with {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} against the {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} of Mike Lang.

"I did not want to see that," Getz said with a smile. "That is the worst scenario."

He was right, but an {8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Spades} flop brought plenty of outs in the form of a straight draw. An {a-Diamonds} gave him even more equity with a flush draw.

"Wow, you have a lot of outs," Lang said with his arms crossed. "Deuce of spades."

The {a-Hearts} was just as good, and Getz shook hands with the remaining players before going to get paid.

Getz Crippled

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Ken Pates opened for a raise under the gun, and Jerome Getz three-bet to 320,000 on the button. Pates shipped it for 645,000, and Getz called.

Pates: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Getz: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Getz was quick to call, but he was well behind, and he didn't catch up on the {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} board. He has just a few big blinds now.

Lang, Lawrence Play Limit

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Jim Lawrence fired up a min-raise from middle position, and Mike Lang called in the small blind. A {10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop hit the board, and Lang checked. Lawrence continuation-bet 125,000, and Lang made it 250,000. That was enough for Lawrence who laid it down.

Behling Doubles Through Lang

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

In a blind-versus-blind spot postflop, Harry Behling shipped into Mike Lang for 635,000, and Lang called on the {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop.

Lang: {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Behling: {j-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Behling's top pair held when fourth and fifth streets bricked off.
