Belland Runs Into Monster

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

We found Steve Belland with 8,000 in front of him, a min-raise over big blind Brad Feldman's bet on an {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop. Feldman responded by pushing all in, and Belland called for about 17,000 total.

Belland: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Feldman: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Feldman was miles ahead with his set, but Belland turned some equity with the {2-Hearts}.

"Ace me," he said, preparing to walk away from the table as if he didn't really believe it would happen. He was right, as the river brought only the {5-Diamonds}.

Ring Makes a Big Fold

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Terry Ring
Terry Ring

A player under the gun checked to former Mid-States Poker Tour champion Terry Ring after a {q-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop. Ring bet 1,600, and his opponent made it 3,200. Ring called, and a {10-Diamonds} turned. The player under the gun bet 6,400, and Ring reasoned out loud that his opponent must have a set of deuces before folding {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} face up. His opponent didn't show.

Players are now on a 10-minute break.

Lawrence Over 50,000

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

A player bet 900 from middle position after a flop of {q-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{5-Spades}, and the button called. Jim Lawrence, who had checked in the small blind, raised to 3,200 and was called by only the original bettor. Lawrence kept coming with 5,000 on the {10-Clubs} turn, and his opponent thought for awhile before calling. A {j-Clubs} made a four-straight on board, and Lawrence verbalized a check. His opponent turned over {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for rivered two pair, but Lawrence had one better with the {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

We found Kou Vang with a stack of yellow T1,000 chips in front of him, more than enough to put an opponent who had checked the {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} board all in. The player thought for about a bit before calling off his 5,000 or so, and Vang turned over {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a turned flush.

Vang currently sits at the top of the Mid-States Poker Tour Player of the Year standings, holding a wide lead over second-place Mike Deis.

DJ Buckley
DJ Buckley

After the small blind checked, a player in middle position bet 6,575 after the board had come {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades}. DJ Buckley called off for less, and the small blind folded.

"You're going to win," the bettor said, and Buckley showed {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, more than enough to beat {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. The bettor sent 5,675 to Buckley, and he's back above the starting stack after losing some chips early.

Matt Kirby's opponent mucked the river.

A player in middle position bet 1,700 into a pot of about 4,000 with the board reading {2-Hearts}{3-Spades}{j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Matt Kirby, fresh off a second-place finish at Mid-States Poker Tour Meskwaki for about $55,000, raised to 4,800 from the bettor's left, and the player made the call. A {4-Spades} completed the board, and Kirby paused before shoving all in after his opponent. The count was around 12,000, and the fourth-street bettor found a fold.

Criego Jams With Boat

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

We found Bill Criego all in for 8,925 on a final board of {6-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The pot contained a good spread of yellow T1,000 chips, at least 12,000 total. His opponent made the call, and Criego rolled over {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} for a turned full house.

"I had you 'til the flop," the player said with a smile, eliciting laughter from the table.
