A player opened for a raise in early position and got three-bet to 1,600 by John Morgan. The opener shoved all in, and Morgan made the call with {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}. His opponent tabled {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, and a {5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} community brought nothing for Morgan, who seemed unfazed as he munched on an oatmeal raisin cookie.

"I'm not giving up," he said.

At a neighboring table, Mark Sandness also had the misfortune of running {q-}{q-} into {a-}{a-}, this time in a battle of the blinds. He still has a healthy enough stack, though.

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Lisa Schoonmaker opened for 575 under the gun and got two callers before Matt Alexander popped it to 2,200 on the button. Schoonmaker came back with an immediate reraise to 4,575, and Alexander called. Both players checked the flop, and the board read {j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} on the turn. Schoonmaker checked again, and Alexander put out 5,000. Schoonmaker said she was all in, and Alexander instantly flicked the dealer his cards.

Two of the most successful players on the Mid-States Poker Tour this year, Matt Kirby and Kou Vang, just took seats in the tournament. Both failed in bids to advance from Day 1a.

Also in the house is Jonathan Olson, who claimed a victory worth nearly $100,000 at MSPT Meskwaki in late July.

Hodge Loses Some Early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player limped in under the gun, and Mark Hodge made it 500 in middle position. Everyone folded back to the limper, who called. Hodge bet 1,000 after his opponent checked the {8-Spades}{q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop, and he was called. The early player check-called another 1,500on the {8-Clubs} turn, and a {10-Hearts} completed the board. Hodge checked it back this time, and his opponent showed {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and took the pot.

Welcome to Day 1b of Mid-States Poker Tour Grand Falls Casino

Few of today's runners will see this point in the tournament.
Few of today's runners will see this point in the tournament.

After one day of play, 16 players have advanced to Day 2 of 2014 Mid-States Poker Tour Grand Falls Casino. Now, with Day 1b set to begin, we'll see how many will join them for the championship chase on Sunday.

Cards are scheduled to be in the air at 4:00 local time, and we'll watch the contestants play 14 levels today, each lasting 40 minutes as part of the Allen Kessler-approved structure adopted by the MSPT earlier this year. Each player will begin with 20,000, and blinds will begin at 50/100. Eliminated players may choose to reenter during the first nine levels, so keep that in mind as you're reading the updates.

Blake Bohn set a high bar indeed, bagging an incredible 400,000. We aren't likely to see anyone reach those lofty heights today, but if anyone does, PokerNews will be on hand to bring you all of the details on how it happens. Stay tuned as Day 1b updates begin shortly.
