Big Call by Perpich

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

We found Bill Perpich facing a bet of 5,200 on a board of {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

"Call," he announced confidently after thinking briefly.

His opponent shook his head in disappointment, reluctant to reveal his holding.

"I have an ace," Perpich announced, showing {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, which was good.

Powers Takes from Olson

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Jonathan Olson, who captured a Mid-States Poker Tour title at Meskwaki Casino earlier this summer, has taken a seat at Table 37, where he recently sent a small chunk of his stack to Marc "Poker Joker" Powers. On fourth street, the board was {4-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}, and a player bet 700 from under the gun, being called by both Olson and Powers. A {2-Diamonds} finished out the board, and Olson bet 1,100 after the first player checked. Powers called, and the first player folded.

Olson shook his head, turning {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a missed flush draw. Power had also missed a flush draw, but he had {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for top pair to go with it.

Romo Gets an Early Score

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Eric Romo bet 1,500 from under the gun on a final board of {q-Clubs}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, and his opponent on the button made it 3,200. Romo reraised to 6,500, and his opponent called.

Romo showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for top boat, besting the small boat of his opponent, who held {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

"I liked it," Romo said casually.

River Washes Away Most of Zarlenga's Stack

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Jason Zarlenga had bad luck early.
Jason Zarlenga had bad luck early.

Jason Zarlenga checked from under the gun and saw his lone opponent, Tom Walberer, bet 700 in what appeared to be a three-bet pot with a flop of {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. Zarlenga made it 2,200 to go, and Walberer immediately reraised to 6,700. The two-time Mid-States Poker Tour champ quickly stacked all of his chips and slid them forward and was called.

Zarlenga: {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Walberer: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Both had flopped monsters, but Walberer needed the board to pair, which it did with the {k-Clubs} river after a {4-Spades} turn. More than likely, Zarlenga will have to make his final bullet count as he's down to under 2,000.
