The Home Stretch

The remaining 56 players are now on the last break of the night. Play will continue for two more 40-minute levels before the players bag for the night.

Namazi Steady Into the Final 3 Levels

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Abbas Namazi was in the hand against two other players looking at a board of {q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. He confidently set out a bet of 20,000 into a pot of about the same size. Both players folded and Namazi threw {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} on the table face up, showing a bluff.

Namazi has hovered around 200,000 for most of the day, and seems to have a solid chance of making Day 2.

James Hurst Gets at Least a Little Revenge

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A player wearing a green Michigan State shirt and cap went all in for 12,000 shortly after the end of the Michigan versus Michigan State game ended in dramatic fashion. Michigan State won the game and some of the players in the tournament field went nuts. However, there are several players sporting the maize and blue of Michigan. One of them is James Hurst, and even though his hand was probably good enough to call, there may have been a little revenge behind the call that would knock his opponent out.

Hurst called the all in with {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and his opponent had {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, giving Hurst's opponent some optimism for a few seconds, before the river failed to complete the flush. Hurst won the hand with ace high.

Garrod Doubles Up?

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Mark Garrod was facing a bet of 10,000 on the board of {2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and made it 27,000. Garrod thought he was all in when his opponent called so he turned over his hand and showed a straight with {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. He was not all in so he turned his hand back over and the two players saw the {9-Diamonds} hit the river. Garrod checked and his opponent laughed and checked knowing what he was up against and deciding not to bluff.
