Hicks Done In By Walking Sticks

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Aaron Thomas opened for 6,500 under the gun and Darren Hicks, who was to his direct left, three-bet jammed for 14,000. Action folded back to Thomas, who made a quick call.

Hicks: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Thomas: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

It was a flip, but Hicks was the one who needed to improve. That proved easier said than done though as the board ran out a useless {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

Meanwhile, both Max Tyler was eliminated from the tournament.

Reisman vs. Carter: Only One Will Survive

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Gary Reisman raised to 9,000 and was met by an all-in three-bet to roughly 40,000 by Bruce Cater, the winner of the first-ever $360 MSPT Regional Event held here at Golden Gates Casino. Action folded back to Reisman, who called off for what looked to be 36,000 total.

Reisman: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Carter: {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

It was another flip, but Reisman held a slight lead, which he extended when the flop came down {9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{k-Spades}. Carter picked up a gutshot to go with his overs, but neither the {8-Hearts} turn nor {6-Diamonds} river was what he was looking for.

Reisman shipped the double, while Carter was eliminated just a couple of hands later.

Gonzalez Flips for His Tournament Life

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Danny Gonzalez
Danny Gonzalez

A short-stacked Danny Gonzalez shoved all in from the cutoff for his last 17,400 and Michael Sanders looked him up from the small blind.

Gonzalez: {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Sanders: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}

It was a flip, but Gonzalez was the one who needed to improve to stay alive. The {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop did nothing for him, and neither did the {Q-Clubs} turn. It was down to the river for Gonzalez, who would come up wanting as the {6-Hearts} bricked.

The Other Half of the Massey Bros. Hits the Rail

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Aaron Massey
Aaron Massey

Aaron Massey has been clinging to a short stack for quite some time, and he recently committed his last 25,000 or so under the gun, which picked up a called in Lou Mortellarr.

Mortellarr: {q-Spades}{q-}
Massey: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Massey needed some help, and while the {j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} paired him, he needed more if he hoped to stay alive. The {5-Spades} turn wasn't what he was looking for, and neither was the {4-Spades} river.

We expect we'll see Massey back in action tomorrow for Day 1b.
