Allen Kessler Asks: "What's Wrong With Me?

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Bruce Russell opened for 3,200 under the gun and Gary Reisman called from the button. Nick Pupillo came along from the big blind, and the trio watched the flop come down {5-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Two checks saw Reisman bet 7,000, Pupillo folded, and Russell called to see the {10-Hearts} turn.

Russell checked, Reisman bet 15,000, and Russell check-raised to 36,000. Reisman called and then both players checked the {8-Clubs} river.

"I missed," Russell admitted and showed the {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a missed straight. Reisman then tabled the {j-Hearts}{k-Spades} for the win.

"Wow, I triple up," chimed Allen Kessler, who claimed to have folded pocket deuces. "What's wrong with me?"

Fare Ye Well, Edith

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Edith Mortell
Edith Mortell

We noticed Edith Mortell was no longer in her seat, and a quick check with the table confirmed that she had been eliminated.

As Travis Northrope told it, he had raised to 2,000 under the gun and received four callers, including Mortell and Ross Reichert in the small and big blinds respectively. The {j-}{5-}{7-} flop saw Mortell lead out for 6,000, Reichert raise to 16,000, and both Northrope and the other player fold.

Mortell responded by moving all in and Reichert called.

Mortell: {j-}{q-}
Reichert: {j-}{5-}.

Neither the turn nor river helped Mortell, and she fell just shy of the dinner break.

Novotny Doubles; Sanders Takes from Tipton

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Over at Table 12, Karen Novotny got her stack of roughly 23,000 all in preflop against an opponent who had her covered by just 200.

Novotny: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Novotny was well out in front, and stayed there as the board ran out a clean {a-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. Her opponent managed to double the next hand, but fell in the one after that.

Meanwhile at the same table, Michael Sanders was sitting with a mountain of chips and informed us he doubled through Chuck Tipton in the last hand before dinner. Tipton held kings, Sanders aces, and the rest was history.

Action folded to Duma Lowery on the button and he raised to 2,000, which Mike Hassab called from the small blind. MSPT Team Pro Nick Pupillo came along from the big blind, and the flop came down {k-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

Hassab checked, Pupillo tossed in two red T5,000 chips for a bet of 10,000, and Lowery called off his last 7,500. Hassab then check-raised all in for 22,000, and Pupillo called the additional 12,000.

Lowery: {j-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Pupillo: {j-Diamonds}{q-}
Hassab: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Hassab got it in good with top pair, but both Lowery and Pupillo were drawing to two different straight. The {A-Clubs} turn gave Pupillo his, and that left Lowery drawing dead. Meanwhile, Hassab could still win with either an ace or kings on the flop, but it was not meant to be as the {8-Clubs} blanked on the river.

Keeline Fires Again

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

We noticed Ben Keeline was no longer seated at Table 13, and a quick check with MSPT Team Pro Matt Alexander confirmed that Keeline had been eliminated.

However, as he was confirming the elimination, Alexander spotted Keeline a table over, having already reentered and doubled up. Clearly the second bullet is going better for Keeline than the first.
