Hammer Up

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Bruce "Hammer" Swart is still sitting near starting stack, but added a little on this hand.

He limped preflop from middle position and Mark Kroon called. The big blind checked his option.

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Hammer led for 700. Kroon called and the big blind folded.

The turn was the {8-Hearts} and Hammer bet again, making it 1,200 to go. Kroon called again.

Both players quickly checked the {3-Spades} on the river and Hammer showed {q-}{j-}. Kroon mucked his hand and Hammer won the pot.

A Different Kind of Check-Raise

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Ben Smith just took down a pot with a raise on the river.

The action started preflop when five players saw the flop in a limped pot. The flop was {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs} and all players checked. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and the first player to act bet 550. Smith was the lone caller and the two players would be heads up to the river.

The river was the {7-Spades} and the first player led out again, this time for 725. Smith checked his cards, making sure he knew exactly what he held, and then he raised to 1,700. His opponent tanked for about 40 seconds before folding and giving Smith the pot.

Garrett Sacrifices Stack

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Ernest Garrett
Ernest Garrett

Ernest Garrett bagged 14,500 chips last night. Apparently he wasn't happy with that, so he woke up this morning and earned another seat into the Main Event. He just sat down and just like that added 5,500 chips to his stack.

MSPT events require you to sacrifice your stack if you choose to try and run up a bigger stack in later flights. Of course, he now has to make it through 12 more levels of play before he knows whether he will be playing Day 2 or not.

Straight Outta The Tournament

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

The board read {5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{j-Spades} and a player bet 1,500. Vue Thao reraised to 3,200. It didn't take long for his opponent to shove all in, and it took even less time for Thao to call.

His opponent turned over {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and Thao turned over {7-Spades}{8-Spades} for a straight. The {q-Diamonds} on the river didn't change the outcome and Thao scored a knockout and is now over 30,000 early in level 2.

Schmitz Off and Running

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Eric Schmitz is already over 30,000 nearing the end of level 1. On this hand he raised Ross Reichert's opening bet, after 5 players saw a flop of {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}.

Mandy Caffee and Eric Schmitz, along with two other players limped preflop. When the action got to Reichert, he threw in his big blind quickly.

"Quick before someone raises," he said.

When the flop came {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and the small blind checked, Reichert was quick to bet 200. Caffee folded and one player called, before Schmitz raised to 2,500. That was enough to get everyone to fold. Schmitz showed the {9-Clubs} and suggested that he didn't like the two diamonds on the board.
