Day 1b Started
On the first day of deer-hunting season, today’s field will be trophy hunting. Day 1b of the Mid-States Poker Tour Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells Main Event starts at 4 p.m. local time.
Yesterday’s field drew 176 players, with 26 advancing to Day 2. Today’s players will play 14 40-minute levels and try to earn their spot in Day 2 as well.
Day 1a chip leader Lee Rzentkowski has set the bar pretty high, ending his flight with 407,000 chips.
Yesterday’s birthday boy and MSPT Pro Matt Alexander busted after missing a flush draw in a three-way all in that also eliminated Peixin Liu. Both players are expected in the field today. Liu is currently fourth in the MSPT Player of the Year race.
The top two players in the POY race are also expected today. Both MSPT Pro Blake Bohn and the current POY leader Mark Hodge busted yesterday. Hodge actually busted Bohn, when both players flopped trip jacks and Hodge held the bigger kicker. Then late in the evening, Hodge got all his chips in with a pair and a flush draw, but lost to a full house of Andrew Rubinberg, who finished 2nd in Day 1a.
Players can enter, or reenter, the tournament until the start of level 10 today. As usual, MSPT allows only one reentry per day 1. Day 2 will begin play tomorrow at 11 a.m. local time. Stay tuned to see who makes it through Day 1b, with live updates and chip counts right here on pokernews.com throughout the day.
