Dortch Doubles Up

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Nick Dortch counts down his stack after hitting his two-outer.
Nick Dortch counts down his stack after hitting his two-outer.

Nick Dortch got the last of his short stack in preflop with {j-}{j-} but was dominated by an opponent with {a-}{a-}. Luckily for Dortch, he spiked a jack on the {q-}{j-}{k-} flop, and his opponent failed to catch back up.

Mroczkowski Busts Ross

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Eddy Mroczkowski has heaps now.
Eddy Mroczkowski has heaps now.

Mike Ross put his last 10,000 or so in and was called by two players before another shoved all in. Eddy Mroczkowski, the first caller, moved in as well, folding out the fourth player. Mroczkowski turned over {q-}{q-}, while the last all-in player showed {k-}{k-}.

"I have an ace!" Ross announced with glee, happy to have solid equity with such action behind him. He showed {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

A {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop helped nobody, but the {10-Diamonds} turn made Ross a flush draw to go with his ace. It was a {q-Clubs} on the river though, giving Mroczkowski the unlikely win.

Boone Shows a Set

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Jim Boone
Jim Boone

A player opened to 1,300 and was called by Jim Boone in middle position. The cutoff made it 4,500 to go, folding out the opener, but Boone came along to see a {3-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop. Boone checked, and his opponent bet 8,000. Boone raised to 16,000, leaving about 4,000 behind, and the three-bettor mucked.

Boone flashed black sevens.

Sorgi Dodges Quads

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Shawn Sorgi checked from the hijack and was facing a bet of 15,000 from the player on the button on a board of {4-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. Sorgi said something about expecting to be shown quads, and he folded. Amazingly, his opponent did indeed turn over {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and the quad fours epidemic continues to sweep through the room.

Bratovich Doubles, Cripples Pattison

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante
Michael Bratovich
Michael Bratovich

We found Michael Bratovich thinking it over from the cutoff after Sean Pattison put him all in from the big blind on a {q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop. Bratovich had bet 7,500, and Pattison put him at risk for 34,575. Bratovich did make the call, showing {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, and his worries about being beaten by a better set were unfounded, as Pattison had {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for top pair. The hand was over after a {5-Diamonds} turn.
