Sundine Sunk; Gutfreund Makes Enemies

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

That new home wasn't a good one for Douglas Sundine.

He got there, got it in with {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} versus David Gutfreund's {5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and simply got outflopped.

As Sundine hit the exits, Gutfreund appears headed in the other direction, chipping up over 125,000 since the start of the day.

Sundine Setting

Doug Sundine
Doug Sundine

With two huge set-up hands vaulting him into the top ten in chips coming into Day 2, Doug Sundine had a massive smile on his face yesterday. Unfortunately, that smile has faded today as Table 17 has literally eaten his lunch.

A level and a half in, he's down from 180,000 to just 20,000 now, with big stacks Brett Reichard and Patrick Harshbarger both gaining ground around him.

He may get some reprieve though, Table 17 just broke and Sundine has moved to a new home.

Dean Three-Bets; Shoves

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Kannan Chandran checked the {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop with 11,000 in the middle heads-up with Thomas Dean. But check-raised to 12,500 when Dean bet 6,000.

Not to be outdone, Dean bumped it up further, making it 25,000 and Chandran flatted. The turn came the {10-Clubs} and after a Chandran check, Dean simply pushed his 108,000-chip stack in.

Chandran tank-folded.

You Gotta Have Heart

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Arpit Mehta open shipped from late position for 47,500 and Tim Thompson looked him up one seat over.

Mehta: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Tim Thompson: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Mehta took the lead on the {10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop, then locked it up with the {q-Hearts} flush-granting turn. A card it would turn out he needed to hit as the salt-in-the-wound {6-Diamonds} hit the river for Thompson.

Moving On Up

Mark Hodge
Mark Hodge

"From the outhouse to the penthouse," said Mark Hodge, who managed to pick off a shorter stack and chip up again just one hand after tripling up.

This time he picked up pocket kings and made a set to climb up to 145,000.

Hodge Triples

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

MSPT Player of the Year contender Mark Hodge pushed in for his last 31,500 over an 11,000-chip open and Tom Dean cold called.

The raiser also called and they checked down the {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} board. Hodge showed {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} and his set was good for the triple up versus Dean's {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} and the raiser's {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

Dean Sobers Up; Deadwood Done

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

After drinking his way into a 200,000-chip stack on Day 1b, Thomas Dean lost steam in the late levels and bagged just a little over 80,000.

However, a more sober looking Dean showed up today and got things started with a raise to 8,000 from under the gun. Jim 'Deadwood' Livingston came over the top all in and when it folded back to Dean, he called with the {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}.

Livingstone was drawing thin with the {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and despite turning a straight draw on the {8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} board, he shipped his stack over to Dean and hit the rail.

Kessler One and Done

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The shortest stack coming into play, Allen Kessler is the first out.

He jammed his 17,000 over a 10,000-chip open with {a-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and the raiser called with a dominated {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}.

In typical Kessler-like fashion, he immediately got outflopped as the {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{a-Hearts} came down giving his opponent two pair. The {4-Spades} turn and {9-Clubs} river did not help and Kessler is out early.
