Sundine Setting

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Doug Sundine
Doug Sundine

With two huge set-up hands vaulting him into the top ten in chips coming into Day 2, Doug Sundine had a massive smile on his face yesterday. Unfortunately, that smile has faded today as Table 17 has literally eaten his lunch.

A level and a half in, he's down from 180,000 to just 20,000 now, with big stacks Brett Reichard and Patrick Harshbarger both gaining ground around him.

He may get some reprieve though, Table 17 just broke and Sundine has moved to a new home.

Sundine Sunk; Gutfreund Makes Enemies

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

That new home wasn't a good one for Douglas Sundine.

He got there, got it in with {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} versus David Gutfreund's {5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and simply got outflopped.

As Sundine hit the exits, Gutfreund appears headed in the other direction, chipping up over 125,000 since the start of the day.

The Changing Fortunes

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Adam Friedman
Adam Friedman

What a difference a day makes. Both Adam Friedman and MSPT Pro Matt Alexander came in with sizable stacks and were in contention for the lead.

However, the first few levels have been a lot kinder to Alexander than they have Friedman. While Alexander is up to 270,000 now and firmly in the top ten, Friedman is slipping down the list.

He did get things turned around moments ago though, making it 10,000 from the cutoff and getting called by both blinds. After two checks, a continuation bet of 10,500 on the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop was good enough to take it down and get Friedman back on track.

A Cure For What Ails You

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Adam Friedman is healthy yet again and back firmly near the top of the counts.

The hand that did the trick started with one early position player meaning to raise, but just calling. Both Friedman and Mike Lang joined in from late position and the blinds obliged. The flop fell {q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and both blinds checked to the limper, who bet 13,000.

Only Friedman and Lang called and they went three-way to the {4-Clubs} turn. Here, the limper led for 17,000, with Friedman and Lang going nowhere. Finally, the limper checked the {a-Hearts} river and Friedman grabbed the reigns, pushing out a bet of 31,500. Lang tank-folded, but the limper called quickly with the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

Friedman had missed his flush draw, but his {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} was good for aces up.

Cacho Catches One

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Ric Cacho
Ric Cacho

Ric Cacho called a raise with the {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, going four ways to the flop. He then shoved it all in when the original raiser continuation bet the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop.

Thinking he must have been on a draw, the raiser called with {3-}{3-} and Cacho's full house propelled him to a big double up.

"I'm just heating up at the right time," he said, joining the top of the chips counts as the third level of the day comes to a close.

Break; Bubble Looms

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

With three levels in the books already, the 54 players remaining are off on a 10-minute break just nine spots off the money.

Lang's Queen's Finally Hold

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

After an early position raise to 13,000, Mike Lang shoved the button for 65,000.

Dan Hamm tanked for a while in the small blind but let it go before the big blind called all in for a little less.

The raiser let it go and Lang showed {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} the very same hand he busted Day 1a with, getting four-flushed against {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}. This time he was up against {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and held through the {7-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts} run out that gave Lang and his opponent each a set.
