To the Top: David To Bags Day 1a Lead at Potawatomi

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
David To

Mid-States Poker Tour Potawatomi kicked off Friday with the tour's second stop of the year in Milwaukee, and David To bulldozed through Day 1a, the first of two starting flights, to bag 515,000. That's by far enough to top the 42 surviving players out of the 246 who took part in the 14-level day.

Jerry Gumila (303,500), Jack Torcolese (249,500), and former MSPT runner-up Thomas Peebles (223,000) also bagged healthy stacks.

To already had a solid stack in Level 13 (1,000/2,000/300) when a player moved all in for 34,400 in middle position and To shoved over that in the cutoff with a stack that covered the table. The big blind had about 50,000 and called off with the {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}. To had it dominated with the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and the third player held the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. To flopped a queen to score the double knockout and extend his chip lead.

Then, To finished the night strong in one of the last hands when three players saw a {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop. Action checked to Jason Seefus, who bet 10,000 on the button. To made it 27,000 in the big blind, and Seefus came back over the top with 80,000 after the third player folded. To put Seefus all in for 53,000 more and the latter called with the {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. To had flopped a flush with {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and held.

Other players to punch Day 2 tickets included Brett Reichard (143,500), Rodger Johnson (98,000), Jason Seitz (69,000), and Yossi Azulay (39,500).

Notable runners to bust were Jonathan Dimatteo, Nick Kost, "DQ" Dan Hendrickson, Ravi Raghavan, Josh Reichard, Mark Kroon, Prince Gaspard, Mike Ross, last year's champ Jason Mirza, and MSPT Team Pros Blake Bohn, Matt Alexander, and Matt Kirby.

Those players will have another shot on Day 1b, which kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Seefus Busted at Buzzer

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Jason Seefus
Jason Seefus

On a {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop, Jason Seefus bet 10,000 from the button after two opponents checked. David To made it 27,000, and a third player mucked. Seefus counted out his stack and announced a raise. He put 80,000 in. To said he was all in for about 53,000 more effective, and Seefus pushed his chips in.

Seefus: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
To: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

To was in good shape against one pair and a bigger diamond draw, and running {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} didn't help Seefus.

Two-Outer for the Lead

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jerry Gumila
Jerry Gumila

We heard a shout and turned to see Jerry Gumila yelling for deuces to hit the board after a {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{k-Spades} flop. He had {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} in front of him and an opponent was all in with {a-}{a-}.

"YES!" Gumila shouted after the {j-Diamonds} and {9-Clubs} hit the board.

Gumila said he had opened to 3,800 and got one call before the player with aces just shipped it for roughly 100,000. Gumila had snap-called and then flopped his winning boat. He now has nearly 300,000 and looks to be the clear leader.

Mark Hodge moved all in for 6,450 over an early limp and got called by the player on the button before the limper shoved for about 18,000. The player on the button called.

Hodge: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Button: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Under the gun: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Hodge's kings held on the {5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} board.

He said he doubled up shortly after that with {q-}{q-} against {10-}{10-}.

Players are on break for 10 minutes.

Mike Ross said he checked a {q-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop in a pot he raised, and Nicholas Revello bet 3,000. Another player called, and Ross shoved all in for about 16,000. Revello called.

Revello: {9-Spades}{8-Spades}
Ross: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Ross turned a set as the {j-Diamonds} hit, but the {10-Spades} river gave Revello both a straight and a flush.

Bohn Penalized After Dragging Pot

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Blake Bohn, pictured at MSPT Maryland Live!
Blake Bohn, pictured at MSPT Maryland Live!

On a board of {2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades}, Mid-States Poker Tour Team Pro Blake Bohn fired 3,000 from the button after his small blind opponent checked.

"You're not raising, that means I win," Bohn said, pumping his fist. "Yes!"

Bohn's opponent called and the Minnesotan showed {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} and took the pot.

After the hand, Bohn was told he couldn't discuss his hand during the hand. He debated the ruling with a tournament official, who ended up handing him an orbit penalty.

Welcome to Day 1a of Mid-States Poker Tour Potawatomi Casino

Jason Mirza
Jason Mirza

The Mid-States Poker Tour took one week off but a busy late-summer schedule continues with MSPT Potawatomi Casino, the second stop for the tour in Milwaukee this year. Historically, this has been one of the most successful stops for the MSPT, drawing huge numbers.

When MSPT came here in the spring, 635 runners turned out, the largest field the tour has drawn outside of Las Vegas. After a long grind, Jason MIrza topped the record field and claimed more than $147,000 in prize money. Plenty of notable tournament grinders will undoubtedly show up to chase such a juicy prize pool.

They'll be playing under Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler's patented structure, which calls for 40-minute levels and blinds beginning at 50/100. Each player will start with 20,000 and be allowed one reentry per starting day. The schedule calls for 14 levels here on Day 1a, which is set for the usual 4 p.m. kickoff.
