"That's What it Takes to Win MSPTs"

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Charlie Dawson
Charlie Dawson

Charlie Dawson opened to 3,800 on the button and both blinds called. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}, and everyone checked. On the {9-Spades} turn, the small blind checked, the big blind bet 2,000, and Dawson called. The small blind woke up with a check-raise to 9,000. The big blind quickly mucked, but Dawson said he was all in. The small blind called.

Small blind: {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Dawson: {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Both players had trips with kickers on board so they were chopping for the moment. Dawson binked the {7-Diamonds} on the river though.

"Nasty beat," he said.

"He hit a two-outer and now he hit a three-outer," someone said of the former champion. "That's what it takes to win MSPTs."

Heine Eliminates One

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Four players saw a {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop, and the big blind shoved for about 17,000. Keith Heine immediately shoved from his left, and everyone else folded.

Heine: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Big blind: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Heine faded the last two sixes and the runner straight to score the knockout.

Yen Checks Back Ugly River

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Alex Yen bet 9,000 from late position on an {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} board and the small blind called. That player then checked the {q-Hearts} river, and Yen checked back and disgustedly showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}, which was good.

Willing His Way Onward

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A player in the big blind bet 10,000 on an {8-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop, and Jim Will called. Charlie Leroi called as well, and the three saw a {5-Diamonds} pair the board on the turn. The first player checked, and Will bet 10,000. Only the big blind called, and he in turn led for 10,000 on the {a-Hearts} river. Will called, and his opponent showed {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. Will revealed {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for top two.

He Always Gets There

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We found Tony Ketterling calling an all-in wager of 16,000 on a fourth street with a board of {a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} on the felt.

Ketterling: {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The river: {9-Diamonds} to give Ketterling a winning flush.

"He does always get there," someone said.
